My daughter wants an art party...she wants to be an artist when she grows up. I thought about making a pallet with colors, but I wanted to make something that would wow her. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

what about taking something she has drawn and making either a bct or an edible image and have it on the cake. Then make a palet with paints on it similar to the one sunlover00 made that way it has some of her own work on it.

I think with the picture Susan sent, (by the way is amazing) you could do some cupcakes that look like the cake in the link I sent you. You could set the cupcakes around the big cake.. Just a thought!

I am throwing a party for my daughter, i call it "little pastry chef party" I am going to get that wilton pan that has the 3 teird small flat cakes, Im going to make those and have icing sprinkle exc for the kids to decorate. And im going to get boxes so they can decorate them and can take thier cake home. Im getting chef hats and aprins with the kids names painted on, the invitaions are going to be in the pocket of the aprons.

Thank you all. I might incorporate a bit of all your ideas into a sheet cake and then use sheilaattaway's idea of having small cakes for each to use as their canvas. We usually end up having lots of the parents come too since we barbeque, so I'll know I'll have enough for all.

I've taken several different colors and put them in globs on the top of my cake and then swirled them together (adding a color here or there) to give it a really pretty marbled/psycodelic (sp?) look and then put a yellow smiley face on it and wrote in print: HAVE A NICE BIRTHDAY. You could do something with the swirling background (although you'll have to be careful not to over or undblend and choose your colors carefully).

JLV --- Mine isn't a cake idea (I did a pallat cake) but we had an artist's party for my little girl in Jan. We had 10 little girls, for the cake plates we used real plastic artists pallats. Then they got ice cream and each little 'pallat well' had a different topping they could decorate their cake or ice cream with...It was a hit! I got the pallats at Michael's for $.99 / piece -- it was well worth any additional cost it may have been!
