I fell in love with cake decorating the moment I saw someone else do it. My cakes and I grew together. Time, effort and lots of money went into our relationship...

Now?!? I have cheated; turned my back on my first love to play around with my new hottie--cookies.

Every time I am baking a cake, I find myself hoping that there will be fondant and icing "convienantly" left over so I will have an excuse to make a batch of cookies--I tell myself it is so nothing goes to waste but I know the truth in my heart--I am moving on...

I have been seen recently searching consignment and resale shops for unique and dazzling cookie cutters.

What really worries me is with the fall approaching and colder weather setting in---an old flame from the past may knock at my oven door--gasp! Bread Baking!

icon_eek.gif Scandelous!

I wouldn't normally say this....but I think in a relationship like this, it's better kept secret. What the cakes don't know won't hurt them! Besides, it's just an innocent little cookie...the cake probably won't even be suspicious. I know I won't tell! tapedshut.gif

ahhh, bread! One of my first loves too....

And don't forget home made caramel, fudge, butter cookies, gingerbread...fruitcake anyone?

LOL

I start baking for the holidays on, like, Haloween!

too funny...

You'll come crawling back...Tell yourself (and the cakes), it's just a fling...it didn't mean anything...it'll never happen again...

ROFL

justfrosting, I just about wet my pants I was laughing so hard when I read your message!!!!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

We all feel this way sometimes, I truly believe it. For me, I love to do the pastries and DIFFERENT types of things, not just the cakes and cookies. But lately, whether it's the fall weather or the fact that my new grandson is just 6 months old I don't know, but .... well, QUILTING has been calling to me again. The feel of the fabrics ...... the gorgeous colors ...... all the different patterns ...... the variety of quilting patterns I could put in by hand ..... I could go on and on, ad infinitum, much like you with your cookies (and believe me when I say I am the same way when the "cookie bug" bites .........).

So don't feel badly ....... go with your feelings ........ if we all stayed with only one thing, we would be like Flat Stanley ........ not so well-rounded ........ a little bit flat ...... a little bit boring.

And anyway, mastering the cookie bug will make you a better cake decorator!

Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!!!!!!!

I think it all comes down to the idea that love should be easy.

Cakes are so high maintance--dowels, plates, torting--and a B-- to transport. Such elusions of grandure.

Cookies are just so grateful to be made and enjoyed, so grateful they are given the time of day. So, So much easier to take 200 miles away to a party!

You are a good baker. Good bakers are open minded and don't limit themselves to just one thing. icon_smile.gif Bake away !!!!

This is so funny! Instead of Nip/Tuck (my current favorite!), it's Mix/Bake.
Oddly enough, Cookies have caught my eye lately too, flirting with me shhh.gif to lure me away from Cake. Maybe you could just tell Cake that you need a little time away to see other baked goods for a while. You know, to make sure you're really right for each other. You can still be friends in the meantime.

Hahaha! When I read the topic title, I was thinking "what is this doing in the Cookies section?!" LOL.

Aaaahhh. The wonderful joy of cookies. I once was tempted by that 4 letter hunk of chocolatey goodness (cake). I'm sure the cookies were very mad at me. I found out the hard way that cheating on my 1st love would have severe consequences. Mainly burnt edges and AWFUL decorating! icon_surprised.gif I will never again leave my doughy friend. icon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gif

I think we all can use a break from cakes. I started getting into cookies more and since it is a different venue, it helps keeping me from being bored. I am sure after awhile I'll get the same with cookies, but for right now its soothing. With the holidays coming up, I enjoy the breads, and holidays baking.

So, who needs an excuse for extra fondant and icing? Just make more, I always say.

OOPS! Too much crisco, now I have to add more sugar -- you know the drill.

Just don't leave cookie crumbs in your bed and the cakes will never find out! icon_lol.gif I have a different affair. I am steering away from my dream of a bakery to share my talent with others as an instructor. I have been teaching Wilton for 7 years and have recently found a new teaching/ sales career in the cake/ cookie/ candy world. I sometimes enjoy teaching others even more than decorating! And it is a LOT less stress on the hands! icon_biggrin.gif I will never leave cakes, just love it in a different way.

I laughed so hard when I read your post. I have been thinking about trying cookies. My DD (WHO IS 7) and I do cookies for our friends at Christmas but never scratch. I usually cheat and buy the dough and roll it out and cut. Then slap some store bought frosting on them. Not this year. We are going to experiment. And like someone else said the quilting bug is biting me. I have also loved to sew and my sewing machine is getting jelous. I bought it with my christmas money last year to donate quilts to Katrina victims. I loved to sew but never had made a quilt till then. I want to make my kids quilts for Christmas. So I will be cheating on my dear friend cake with 2 other lovers icon_cry.gif But I will still love cake but I still have to fill my other needs icon_wink.gif Cake will never know the difference I will make sure hehe icon_wink.gif

You just need to remember you are human and you have primal needs to explore and experiment and if cake can't understand that than cake doesn't really understand you. HEHEHE!!
It is nice to have other areas of decorating to explore. and cake should see that it is only making you a better decorator.
Just be careful the first time you decorate a cake that uses cookies as some of the decor. You wouldn't want to hurt feelings.
