Miked,
My mother in law used to have a sign in her bar, it said...........The customer is always right, BUT, the bartender can decide at any time if you are still a customer. Just sub out bartender for cakebaker.

Haven't taken time to read all the posts, but, DOUG....this is for you!

I have a friend whose MIL used to bake and decorate cakes. She was AWESOME by the way and last year at 82 years old entered a black forest cake in a church competition. It was decorated BEAUTIFULLY with the most perfect basketweave I have ever seen!

Anyway, back to the story. She was contracted to make a 50th wedding anniversary cake for a Hotel Mogul in Kentucky. She drew up the design, showed him the cake. He paid her like $1500.00 (this was in 1980) by the way ON THE CONDITION that she destroy the cake design after making the cake. She asked permission to make one more cake by the design (her granddaughter's wedding cake). She took a $400.00 cut in price to do it. And YES she did destroy the design plan and never made it again.

I hope your point that she is special to God really sinks in ... you may have been one of the first people who said that in such an authoritative way. I think if she realizes how much you put into her cake(s) that she will count her blessing and do a lot of rethinking. Way to go! (I can't wait until the wedding!!)

I should have had my kids in bed 45 minutes ago...yet here's my 18 month old taking all the books of the shelves and my other two are somewhere being quiet....too quiet in fact...I guess I better get off CC and check things out...a quiet 4 and 5 year old....scary stuff!

Holy As the Cake Turns!! I saw this thread when it was 1 page and hadn't checked in again until now---15 pages later !!!! I glanced at the last page and realized I simply HAD to go back to the beginning. I can't say I don't know a person like this as well. She was a major bridezilla. I was "honored" with throwing her bachelorette party b/c her maid of honor lived too far away, and when she didn't like what I had planned for her she cancelled it and threw her own. That was ONE of many bridezilla-like things she did. The skeptic in me says Ashleigh was so screwed by having her wedding cake cancelled that she had to come groveling back. I believe she even said something to that effect in her "apology". Good for Melysa for taking pitty on her soul. You're a better woman than I. I hope you truly did teach her a lesson. SOMEBODY had to. I can't wait to see that cake!

Well you are a SAINT for doing this and hopefully she will think twice before she opens her big mouth and whines again.

WHAT I CAN'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY IS SHE PAYING FOR HER OWN SHOWER??? WHO THROWS A SHOWER FOR THEMSELVES BUT HAS SOMEONE ELSE HOST IT?? I am just baffled about that and wonder if she has just made so many enemies or has so little friends that she has someone else host the party but she pays for it. Was having this other person as the host the only way others would come? If so that my friend is truly a sad note in her life.

ok....so (whine) now we have to wait until October to see the cake...( picture me bent down like a little kid...with hands hanging down saying this in a whining voice....oh man......

I am now twice as proud of you as I was last night. icon_wink.gif Not only did you have the opportunity to speak your mind and set this girl straight, but you still get to make her sure-to-be gorgeous wedding cake!!!! I am so impressed with the way that you have handled everything. While I still think that this bride is a bit off her rocker icon_confused.gificon_surprised.giftapedshut.gif, I am glad there is a happy ending to the story. I hope she doesn't have any more tantrums between now and October. icon_rolleyes.gif I can't wait to see Saturday's cake picture, and I REALLY can't wait to see the wedding cake picture in October!!!!! to those of you who have asked , i dont know why she is paying for her cake, i didnt ask. i am assuming that the host and a couple others may be taking care of the rest, but i simply believe that the other person can not afford my prices (she has told me so... ) , so the bride to be decided that she would do it herself since she really wanted a turn your head, jaw dropping DIFFERENT cake, and knew she could get it from me rather than the bakery down the street. its just one of those things, that if you want it bad enough, you'll do it yourself i guess. if left to the hostess (dear girl, i love her) they'd probably be serving cupcakes icon_smile.gif

today i spent the afternoon with my kids (heehee). took my 8 year old son to get his long awaited gameboy that he's been saving up for, and did a little shopping for the cake. i actually didnt start baking until 8 pm when my husband took the 3 boys to the gym. i just took the last one out of the oven. 4 hours to bake a cake. BAKE . ..JUST to bake. i had a friend over last friday night to help her make her husbands birthday cake. we did a two layer 8 " round cake (which i had baked the night before). we made icing, did a chocolate wrap and painted chocolate stars. like 3 hours went by...she was amazed that every little detail took so much time. i wish more people understood.

i am off to make some teal gumpaste bows. i hope i dont jinx myself, this 'll be my first time. i need to go read the tutorial and hop on it.

WOW! If I saw this on TV I'd think it was a made-up happy ending. Wait, actually, PLEASE don't give us another plot twist, I don't think we can take it! LOL!

Anyway I am massively impressed with BOTH of you. I love the way you stood your ground but also tried, with a kind heart, to ensure that she understood why, and then honored her original order once she made it clear to you that her behavior was an anomoly and that she understood how poorly she'd acted. I am equally impressed with her--yes it's true--for actually caring enough to reread her own words and acknowledge her responsibility and do whatever it took to rectify the problem. Wow. There is really much to be said for someone who can face their own behavior with that amount of honesty.

Bravo to you both!

Oh and by the way, regarding the concerns for her privacy, perhaps it might be a kind thing for you (and anyone else who posted in here and quoted your message or repeated her name) to just go into your respective posts and edit the woman's name out. Especially now that things are copacetic, it does seem in poor spirits to have her sort of publicly "exposed". Just my tiny little humble opinion...

I too am dying to see both completed cakes. I sure wish we could taste them too icon_smile.gif.

Uh....did she NOT notice that the cake she picked out was in a nationally (internationally?) published magz that is seen by millions of people? Does she really think that SHE is the only one who has seen and will want this cake?

Some people have a high level of self-importance, dont' they?

I agree! I guess it's more that she doesn't want ME to make this cake for anyone else on THIS base? I don't know, either way, I've already told her that that ain't gonna happen! ugh.
