Hello everyone! I have only been decorating for about a year now but eventually want to open a bakery. I just came across information about the ICES Convention. I live about a hour away from New Orleans where this years convention is to be held. My questions are: do you think it would be a good idea for a newbee like me to attend? Also, if you have attended before what did you think? Any feedback would be greatly appericated. icon_smile.gif

I live in Louisiana too but the cost for hotel rooms in New Orleans is just ridiculous ... I'm hoping the next convention would be in an area that isn't as expensive ... I think it would be wonderful for anyone to go to jpdesserts .. newbie or otherwise icon_smile.gif

Forget the Hotel Prices......I live in New Orleans. The Registration for ICES is like almost $300.

I am a newbie and will be going - can't wait! They even have a 'first timers' workshop the first day, to sort of orient you.

Only regret is that some of the great demos were already full by the time I signed up. I'll take my chance with the walkup tickets though.

My poor DH - he really thinks we're going on a vacation..............

This will be my second convention and DH is going with me too. We are going down a couple of days early to see some sights before the convention starts so it won't be all cakes for him. He had fun last year tho. He doesn't mind being the only guy in a room with 1000 women! icon_rolleyes.gif And even tho it doubles my price for convention it's fun having him learn cake stuff too because he's my cake consultant the rest of the year coming up with ideas that I may have forgotten! icon_biggrin.gif

I wouldn't miss going! Can't wait!

Ntertayneme-you might try looking for a hotel in Metairie or Kenner. They are just outside of New Orleans and you can find some hotels that are more affordable! It is a very short drive to the convention center. I live here in N'awlins but I'm not sure if I will be able to go since I have a little one who is still breastfeeding (ah, the life of a mom....). I'll definitely would like to make it to the Gallery Exhibit!!

Just checking in from the conference - demos start tomorrow and I'm very excited. Are there any other CC addicts here that would like to meet? Too bad we didn't set up something in advance..
