I have someone asking me to put fresh flowers on a wedding cake. Since I haven't done this before I have a few questions:

1. I know there are poisonous flowers you cannot use. Is there a list posted that will let me know which ones they are?

2. Since you can't just stick them into the cake how are they attached?

3. How long before the event can they be put on the cake. Minutes/Hours? so they will stay fresh. How much time before they start to wilt?

What don't I know that I should know.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. I really rely on CC to set me straight, so many of you are so talented.

unless the flowers are meant to be used as or com into contact with food, ANY flower cna pose an issue, as most are treated with pesticides and other items to prolong the bloom life. You should work with the bride and florist to obtain appropriate flowers if they are going to be in direct contact with the cake.

You can use flower spikes from wilton, these are used for a corsage type arrangement (very small) or you can buy floral foam like Smither Oasis kind in the shape of a half ball and make the arrangments there. Both are used with water so be very carefull. I usually put a little circle of wax paper between the mini decos and the cake. Hope this helps.
