Okay, I was totally in the mood for some cake. You woul dthink that after two years of making the things, I would not ever want to eat another piece of cake, but nope. I love the stuff! Welll, I was in the grocery store and saw where they were selling individual peices of cake. My hubby wasn't there, so I bought it. I'm actually eating it right now and I can't believe I'm still eating it. It's horrible compared to my cakes. Now I understand why people are saying that my cake is the best cake they've had because they have only been going to the grocery store. Ick!!! I admit that I used to buy grocery store cakes, but I haven't in a long time. I guess I'm just shocked that people still buy them. I might be spoiled. Just thought I would share.

That is soo true! Grocery store cakes don't even compare to our cakes! I can't believe people still buy them either.

OMG, how right you are. I was at Target the other day and was in the mood for a sugar cookie so I bought a package of Pepridge Farms deluxe soft sugar cookies....BLAHK. They had NO taste whatsoever, I couldn't believe how gross they were!

I need to make some cookies of my own (but I REALLY don't need them!)

Weeeee-oooooooooooooo weeeeeeeeeee-oooooooooo weeeeeee-ooooooooooo PUT DOWN THE FORK AND STEP AWAY FROM THE NASTY GROCERY STORE CAKE!!

Xandra83... this is an intervention. We love you and we can't see you do this to yourself any longer. We've stood by quietly for too long... it's just... just too hard to watch someone do this to themselves. It's killing us!

There is only one store bought cookie that is worth buying, and that's an Oreo... and then I usually only get them to make truffles! hehehehe! We won't discuss my sick little addiction to those frosted sugar cookies in the plastic container... are they called Lighthouse brand? Or some brand like that. They are way too sweet and evil, but I can't get away from them if they are here so I don't even buy them! Mine are better anyway!

Lol...Melvira that was too cute.

Your right about store bought. My husband says he better never see me buy cookies or cakes from a grocery store-lol. Probably because of the money I spent on cake supplies. But after making things homemade I wouldn't like it anyway. So step away from the store bought cake!!!

You guys are really bad. I can't believe you'd even consider buying a "store" cake, yuck! The cake here in Mexico is even worse, if you can believe it. I don't think they use any butter, let one sit out overnight and it's a door stop! Thank you for the good laugh! And keep baking.

Ok, I can totally relate. I had a clear cookie jar once and I bought a bunch of those cheap iced oatmeal cookies at WM one day and dumped them in.....well, my hubby tells my son to go and plant one in the yard to see if "real" cookies would grow..... icon_rolleyes.gif

I wonder the same thing when i am walking by the bakery section of the grocery store and see people picking out cakes. I think, WHY bother spending the money on that. icon_surprised.gif I almost have wanted to hand out my biz card to those people but i would never do that of course.
I do have to admit though that cake is my downfall and if i go to the store on an empty stomach and see the cakes, i have been tempted to get one just to pig out on some sort of sweets.

You all are too funny.... but you're right about not being able to buy "store" cake and packaged cookies anymore.

However, if I'm tempted while shopping, it's usually those frosted sugar cookies calling to me icon_mad.gif I try to resist, but I'm not always successful.

Good to know I'm not alone icon_rolleyes.gif

Here's one you won't believe! Growing up, we ate only homemade goodies, so I've always made cakes, cookies, etc. When I got married and started baking for my family, my husband told me to just buy store-bought stuff. He said he ... LIKES THEM BETTER!!! icon_surprised.gif And, no, it's not me - I really am a good cook - he's just a lunatic! He was just raised on twinkies and ding-dong's instead of real food! Isn't that gross?

Kaste, I know what you're talking about... my sister's boyfriend was raised eating that Kraft boxed spaghetti... (ew) and they were at my house for dinner one night, I made my homemade sauce with chunks of tomato, mushrooms, zucchini, meat, all the goodies, (I make some seriously good pasta sauce!!) and he just looked at it. Wouldn't eat it. Made him macaroni and cheese becuase that is another item on his 'acceptable foods' list. Baloney... spaghetti-O's... I think that about covers it. Nothing with more than 3 ingredients!!

And yes... Lofthouse cookies were sent here from the Devil. They are the key to man's undoing. I was impressed that cakesbyjess and her husband are able to make them last days... with an s... between the two of them. I could finish them myself in DAY...no S...!! icon_lol.gif

This is too funny. Growing up we never had "snacks" in the house...the only thing we ever had was BREAD! Yes, Bread...I lived in the Caribbean and there was this Sweet Egg bread that we would have with our coffee! YUM!

Then when we moved to NYC there was this Spanish Bakery called VALENCIA, I t hink they used airdrying buttercream..lol. Their cake was great the next couple of days after!! Especially with the silver dragees!! lol

We used to order our party cakes and our meat and guava pastries from them from every party!

They used to close the day before Christmas to bake the neighborhoods roasted piglettes.

They were in business for many, many years. They finally closed because. the "new generation" didn't want to run the company! ( so says the scuttlebutt!)

A lot of Hispanic New Yorkers STILL miss this place!!!

Y'all are too funny.
Are we doing store-bought confessions here?

I love Pepperidge Farm Sausalitos. I think it's a sentimental thing. I don't keep a lot of nuts (well, except for my family) in my house, because my son is allergic. So, once in a while, I buy 'em.

But, I've got the family trained...

My husband goes to a lot of catered lunches for work, and he always refuses to eat the cake!

My kids can bring in home-made stuff in their lunches, so I get requests each week for cookies.

And, we never buy the store-bought biscuits anymore. (We called them "whomp" biscuits, because of the sound they make when you open the package.) I have a great great great biscuit recipe if anyone wants it.
My mother-in-law loves them, and she is a true blue Southerner, she knows what she speaks of!

Okay, I'm rambling. Too much coffee!

RB...(hi there!)....this sounds like what we Greeks eat (usually) on holidays....it's called Tsoureki. It's a sweet bread. If you find a Greek bakery or pastry shop, ask for some. WARNING: You'll eat the whole thing with a cup of coffee.
