I read the post about the ranks being changed, but I just noticed that people who have 100+ posts are rated as 'frequent' members, with 3 stars, and people who have 200+ posts, like myself, are rated as 'regular' members, with only 2 stars!

Jackie mentions in this post in the Cake Decorating Contest forum that she changed the rankings for a reason, one being that she is going to make it mandatory that anyone must have a ranking of 20 in order to submit a pic to the contest

icon_cry.gif I am in shock at the moment..I read the "post" on the ranking..HOWEVER...I have 97 under my belt...I do not agree with "taking away" from those who do get on this thing everyday....because it's a great site and everyone is so supportive.

But oh well,,, icon_mad.gif it's just a "star"..
The contests should only be limited to those who are actually members of this site and those out there who are "pro's" in the field should not participate. It makes ME feel inept..that my work is not good enough for those really REALLY GREAT pics I have seen..I know I got me some talent, but NOT THAT talents like them there pro's out there.........

"Just venting"......... icon_twisted.gif
And by the way,, why is my two orders from this site not being delivered until August 10th?? I've never heard of waiting almost a month and a half for something I purchased...... icon_eek.gif

I personally vote on a cake for it's personality and orginality, I never base the cake on people's username or how long they've been decorating.
The stuff is not coming right away because Jackie has to submit the order to the people making the stuff for her.
Think about it, she might not have the money up front for the goods, but she still wants to get the product to us. She may also be getting a feel for what will be the best seller items so that she can keep a large stock of those particular items.
I have no problem waiting for my stuff, it's not like I can get cakecentral.com stuff anywhere else. icon_lol.gificon_wink.gif

...that's why they are called Pre-Orders! Jackie has just selected the design and then it takes time to make all this cool stuff~

How though crash do we constitute a "Pro"? Some would say I am a pro because I own a shop...however I don't think so because I have only been doing this almost 2 years and have had NO classes or formal training. We cant limit people due to their ability or lack of it.

I have no problem with a preorder-how many times have you ordered something to have it "backordered" or not available until xxxdate-same here-and it's a unique item so specialization takes some time too. As far as the stars go-"it doesn't matter how many times you come to the dinner table-just as long as you visit sometimes"-as my grandma used to say- input is important whether its alot or just a little-...

Hi CrashDummy2

All of our orders are pre-orders for the following month. You can read the full details here.

I placed red text under each product description that they are not available until Aug. 10th. I apologize if this was unclear.

I had to re-arrange the forum ranks. I will be using them later on for rewards and other "rules" type situations with the contest (having to be a Jr. Members etc). This will not take affect until the next contest. For the current 4th of July contest, entries can be made by anyone.

I wasn't trying to "take away" anyone's status, I simply needed to create more evenly spaced rankings. Sorry about that, I hadn't realized just how special the rankings meant icon_redface.gif
I would have made a bigger announcement about doing it before I did. Im sorry about that!

The only reason rank would be important, to me anyway, is for a contest. Who cares who is a junior member or a frequent member, or an addict for that matter? Aren't we all here to share information and be part of the bigger community? Not to knock anyone, but arguing about the rank thing is not condusive to the overall enjoyment of this site.

Ratings are not so importants if you really can help other people...

You know I believe everything has a Rank to it...But honestly who cares. The Rank is based on how many post that have been made and things like that. A lot of times I like many of you don't have time to get on here and post but I do read. So if there were a rank for readers we would all be El Presidente!! So Lets not bicker about the Order of the Ranks and LETS JUST ALL GET ALONG and DECORATE!!! Love all of ya!

Hi Saborita, I just wanted to say that I think it is great that you are contributing in English even though you think yours is not so good. Good for you! There are some of us who were born to it that don't do too well with English!

Having the Spanish coordinator is good, but I was noticing before that the foreign language members' English seemed to improve the longer they stayed on CC, so it must be learning tool in that way as well as baking and decorating.

I was approaching that gold star mark myself, and am a bit disappointed...maybe it is the color stars that make the difference! Maybe they could change as the rank changes? Janice

icon_confused.gif Hi Jackie....sshhheessshhhh,,I didn't know I created such a ruckus....

Anyway,,,,,thanks for the quick reply...but again I am sorry to say,,that "at the time I made my purchase"...there was no mention of a waiting period...But that's ok.......I will GLADLY wait for my stuff!!!!! I just couldn't explain to my hubby why I made two purchases, and no stuff yet...

As far as the star thing......who cares.........it's just a star like I said earlier....Whoopie Doopie........I just appreciate the fact that there is such a site as this that there is alot of great ideas going......support......and I met some really nice people.......it's not like some of "those other sites" where they think their stuff is WAY TO GOOD for us to even look at or join......I hate things like that.....

And let me see,,oh yes, one other thing......as far as who ever it was that mentioned about "Pros" I'm talking about those out there and you know who you are who can really do up a cake beautifully, so great looking that you know it took special training or learning -whatever you call it.....and don't even tell us beginners out here (such as myself)only been at it going on 2 years(I think it's been that long). Anyway,,tell us how you get those beautiful cakes to look so elegant. I don't think I was pointing to anyone "specifically", nor those who OWN bakeries...THose who do own bakeries, that is so great!!! THat's where your creativity REALLY flows.......So if anyone is going to "pick gracefully on me" DON'T PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
So if I started a hornets nest, quick,,,let me go get the bug spray!!!! icon_rolleyes.giftapedshut.gif

i dont think the ranks matter that much. when looking at pictures it doesnt say your username and then your rank like we were in the military. lol if this makes it easier for jackie to do the contest then we should all be grateful she is able to do them and we get a prize if we win. I for one agree you should have at least a junior ranking to enter contest because i have noticed people who have been members for almost 2 years and not even 1 post to their name. Even if they do posts all their pics and read the forums they are not helping others they are soaking up all the good ideas and help that everyone else gives with out giving back. I know i dont know much about cake decorating yet but when i see a topic i can help out on i do. So Jackie and all the moderators who work on this site i am right behind you guys 100%.

Debbi, I don't think anybody is "arguing" over the rankings, just stating opinions and ideas, like we do about many other subjects!

If we didn't have the rankings, we wouldn't know how long anybody had been a member, or how many posts they've made, so they do serve a purpose and moreso now that that will be a requirement for contests and other functions! Janice

I haven't had time to get on CC today till just now. I'm glad I did. icon_biggrin.gif

Jackie, thanks for the reply~ No problemo~ I wasn't going to mention the subject but since someone did, I posted. Whatever you do is fine w/ me. You don't owe me an apology thumbs_up.gif

Jackie & other Members,

I was under the impression that the ranks were there for Jackie to choose new moderators. I guess not, because I haven't been asked to become one. icon_biggrin.gificon_twisted.gif It won't make me like CC any less!!! thumbs_up.gif

If the rankings weren't there then there wouldn't be any arguments about them. I have never posted just because I wanted to get that star moved up. Though some members do.

I have learned a lot from CC & other classes I"ve taken & from other friends who decorate. I like to share that & help others out. icon_smile.gif

For those of you who haven't been on CC for very long don't know how we feel about the ranks changing. It's not a big deal to you because you don't have very many posts. Me & a few others are always helping people out & to us it's a pat on the back for a job well done. thumbs_up.gif No bragging rights coming from our key boards! icon_wink.gif We are just a bunch of proud "oldies" & love helping people.

I agree w/ the rating thing just for entering the contests. So we know that whoever enters are frequent members. I do not agree w/ the fact that everyone based on talent should enter or not. Just because one person thinks a cake is wonderful & that person must be an expert doesn't mean another person will think the same thing. If the contests aren't going to be broken down into catagories then anyone can enter the contests.

The contests are not meant to argue over! They are there for us to challenge ourselves!!! So enter these contests not on the basis that you will win or not but that you have completed another challenge to write down in your book of cakes~

I do not care if anyone gets mad at me for this post! I'm always holding back on my opinion so I don't hurt anyone. I felt I needed to say what I wanted to this time. I'll still be the same ole' nice, sweet, country gal that I am. party.gifbirthday.gif So lets stop bickering & get back to making cakes & sharing our lives w/ each other~

I figure this forum is for learning, teaching and caring and I feel that it accomlishes both-stars or no stars-besides-you can't measure what you have learned or taught-and we teach whether we realize it or not...I feel all who are here are gold stars in their own right-we post pictures to show others, everyone who puts a picture out there has bragging rights-you did the work and you learned and taught from it-one way or the other-everyone should be proud of their work no matter what "stage" of decorating you are in-and while some take things to heart more so than others-that's what makes us human-I personally don't care about the stars-I am more interested in the ideas and cakefriendships than anything else. Like I said-everyone out there is a gold star in my book-just for being here...'nuf said.

icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif Ok now,, for some odd reason, it is starting to look like " I " am the bad seed,,,NOT ME!!!!!! I am like turtleshell,,I say what I say and if I have stepped on toes, then move the toes.......

So, since it sorta seems like you all are coming at me just because I stated something and questioned something like EVERYONE ELSE was doing, then I think I'm going to go away for a while......aggravation such as this nonsense is of no use to me...unfortunately., there are some out there who are experts and they know who they are,,but that's ok........we all appreciate seeing the great creations made and hope to one day acheive that too.....there are some out there who are naturally artistic and very talented..what's wrong with that?? nothing I say in my book...
So, I will post my pics as I normally do,,,,,but I think as far as giving my imput ----not going to happen........

Have a nice day everyone.......and god bless.......I'm not bitter,,just surprised......I am and will continue to be my delightful self........ icon_wink.gif

I don't see what the big deal is... the ranking has nothing to do with ones skill.. I'm still a JUnior, but I don't care, although my skills might not be a "Junior" What matters to me is sharing our ideas, giving eachother compliments and advice .... have a wonderful day everyone...
