Hello everyone-
I have been searching the internet with no luck, and am not sure where else to look for info on optaining a baking license in Maine.
Does anyone know the process for becoming licensed to sell cakes (out of your home) in Maine? This isn't something I'm aiming to do this year, maybe next- (still making cakes for friends / families / husband's co-workers) but down the road I'd like to be official. I read somewhere that you cannot accept money for cakes without a license. (?) I wanted to have all my bases covered.

As mentioned above, this would be out of my home, as I don't want to worry about overhead, etc.

Thank you for any help. icon_smile.gif

Hi there,
I live in Maine and I just became licensed this month....the process was a relatively easy one.
All information can be found through the Dept of Agriculture:
http://www.maine.gov/agriculture/qar/permits.html

Basically you need a two bay sink, separate handwashing facility(bathroom), thermometers in the fridge and freezer, sufficient hot water, etc... If you read chapter 345 of the Maine food code(you can find it on the link I gave you), it lays it all out for you. If you have any questions, just PM me and I will be more than happy to help.
