I feel for ya! I'm glad it was resolved through KA.

Yesterday on the Internet I saw where a FedEx truck in California was crushed beneath a collapsed bridge. Wanna know my first thoughts? "Wonder how many orders from fellow CCers were affected by this?" LOL...pretty sad, isn't it? Miraculously, and thankfully, the driver was okay. I'm not that cold to not worry about that! icon_biggrin.gif

I had order some item from a company.....we were tracking them on a daily basis, took forever for them to show up. So I look one day and the tracking message says address is nonexstint. Which funny because I had a package delivered two days earlier. I called UPS and talked to the lady explained that I had lived in the same house and the same piece of property for 17 years....She said they couldn't send the package out until they could verify our address exsisted it took them 2 days to verify we lived here.

IF the UPS office said it is the driver's responsibility after it says "delivered" then why don't you get to speak to the driver! I would demand that like, NOW! Get your point across to them!

I ordered the majority of my son's school clothes online. I knew about when they should be arriving as Gap, Old Navy, and Kohls send you an email that they have shipped and also give you an "should" arrive by date so I tried to be at home to accept the packages. I am sitting at home when I hear the UPS truck coming up my hill. Now my front door was open and I was sitting on the porch. He gets out and puts the package on the hood of my Envoy and starts back toward his truck. Although it was parked under a carport it was extremely hot that day and if that had somehow melted onto my hood I would have been BEYOND LIVID and would have definately made a trip to London, KY and somebody would have been paying to have my hood repainted. Talk about STUPID and lazy! I have a long set of steps that go up onto my porch and I guess he was too lazy to climb them.

My full time job is as a freight claims specialist. Let me tell you, UPS gives me job security!!! We sell tractor parts, and one of our dealers called the other day telling us UPS delivered "our" package to him. He opened it up, and it was several boxes of really nice ladies rings!!! He said that was ok, he had an account with e-bay!!!

I ship several hundred packages a year for work, and have had some "funny" ones happen with FedEx. I've had the addressee say that the package wasn't received, and when the supervisor for FedEx went out to her house, it was found--on the seat of the farm equipment in her side yard. Yeah, she'd know to look there. Another common one, with both USPS and FedEx is if the addressee lives in a remote area, and there are no other deliveries in that specific area that day, the package miraculously gets marked "nonexistent address" and sent back to me.

FedEx's current procedure is to, by default NOT require a signature for delivery. AND their policy statement says that they can leave the package at the door or with a neighbor. The only way to avoid this is to know that you have to specifically select (and pay extra for) one of their "signature options". One is to require a "direct" signature, which means that the addressee MUST sign for it, in person. One just requires any signature at the address--or a neighbor's address.

Argh. This reminds me, I have another big shipping to do...

I want the packages left whether I am there or not, so FedEx required me to sign a consent form to allow them to leave the package w/o signature. When I order catering supplies, I always request FedEx Ground because I never know if I will be there or not and i'm usually on a deadline where I NEED that delivery for a wedding that weekend. (If I wasn't a procrasticator, it wouldn't be a big problem).

I should have said that their default for residential deliveries is to leave the package without signature. They didn't publicize the change to this policy (which went into effect late last year), and I didn't know about it until one of the packages was misdelivered, and FedEx used the "not our problem" excuse, based on this new policy.

I have been told that there are exceptions to this, based on type of residence (e.g. gated community or condo), or even delivery driver whim.

I think it is that different things work for different people so we all just need to take extra precautions in our area when the time is needed!

If you need to make sure it gets to you add on that extra charge for signature!

(it does stink that these services are NOT what they use to be!)

It is actually the sender that has to indicate that signature is required. If they have been shipping for a long time, and use the online system to create the airbills, the signature options are actually hidden on another page. Often, the shipper doesn't know whether the addressee has problems with packages being stolen if left at the door or if the addressee wants to take the risk of the package being missing to avoid the hassle of being there to sign.

My general policy is to not require the signature, but if the person I am shipping to has a package go missing, from that point on I require a direct signature--unless they will take the liability for the missing package.

I have a great "regular" UPS man, but when he is not there (which is a lot -- they either switch around some or get a lot of vacation/sick leave!) things are terrible! Last September, I was waiting for a package from The Baker's Kitchen (who had been wonderful enough to fulfill a last minute order for me) for a huge gala we were doing the dessert buffet for. Many, many tickets were sold at the last minute and I didn't have enough supplies for the Friday-night event. We knew the delivery was coming on Thursday and had paid A LOT extra to get it there. I checked the website constantly that day and finally saw that it said "delivered - left on front porch." I had been there all day and no one had been there! I did call UPS and they actually did track down the driver for me and the driver had to go to where he left the package. The address was not even close to mine and he said that his computer said that my address did not exist -- I guess that just looked like a good place to leave it!

My UPS story that really irked me was this past Christmas. I shipped many, many boxes of chocolates and cookies for a really great customer. I usually do not ship, but I had to do it for this woman. One of the packages was going to a very important client of hers in SC (only one state away). About two weeks later, I get a call from my customer really upset that the client never got the gift. After I tracked, it had said it was delivered. After going many rounds with UPS, I finally just had to send another package and eat the cost of my product and shipping!!

Since everyone else is telling horror stories...

2 years ago we were planning a trip to florida and I needed a bathing suit. So I went online to the place I get my clothes from, paid $89.~ for this bathing suit and paid $25.00 for next day delivery. We were leaving in 6 days and I wanted to make sure it fit incase I had to send it back. So I wait all day nothing! I check online it says delivered at 5 pm so I go ask dad if he got it nope can't find it anywhere outside or inside.. so I call UPS they are closed. So I called the next day and got the run around for the next 4 days. Finally I said to heck with it drove the 4 miles down the road to UPS office/warehouse and told them I was there to get my package, it took them 3 seconds to hand it to me said that someone had lost it on the truck. Funny that I saw the girl taking it out of her vehicle and running it inside to the manager... personal vehicle.... I told the manager lady that I would appreciate the decentcy of her being honest with me about the situation since I saw with my own eyes the same girl that delivered in my neighborhood last week remove that same gray package out of her personal vehicle and bring it in here. She turned to the girl and said this was the last straw and she had to be let go the girl started crying and carrying on about bills and crap and she told her to be lucky I wasn't calling the police to report it as theft because I had every right to do so.... Needless to say I got the bathing suit and didn't wear it until this summer lmfao.. first time I ever wore it was this summer and it's a touch too big lmao... but at least I got it.

Fortunately, I have a great UPS person in my neighborhood. She knows that I am disabled, and that I live on the 2nd floor, so it takes me a while to get down the stairs and to the door.

My USPS (postal service) guy is great, too. He does also will wait for me when necessary.

Both leave information on deliveries to my apartment for their substitutes when they go on vacation.

My FedEx person, on the other hand, is a total jackass. My meds come delivered overnight in a cooler. He gets here at different times of the morning, and refuses to wait until I get downstairs. I have noted several complaints with FedEx regarding this. The pharmacy went as far as to put Disabled - Please Wait on the delivery instructions, which he totally ignores.
Sometimes you just want to choke them...

Ok guys as a customer service rep this happens all the time no matter the carrier UPS or FEDEX DHL.
The best way to resolve this is when you get a live person at the shipping service phone line state you want to request that a tracer be placed on the package as you never received it . ( This takes 14 bus days)
Call the company that you purchased from and let them know you did not receive most like me have insurance on the item and it can be replaced fairly quickly.
If you know before hand that the package is comming call your local UPS location ( the whole we do not have a phone crap is well CRAP) You can obtain this number from you local delivery driver ( cupcakes help icon_smile.gif ) and let them know you have a package and that you want to make sure that you sign for it as you live in a "high theft area"..... Theft you say yes UPS does identify areas they deliver to that have a high instance of theft they mark these areas as signature required ! Most drivers and UPS staff are willing to help the corporate headquarters 800 # is going to get you nowhere so do not try , Initiate your claim.

ALSO Check your address against similar street names for instance if you live on white street see if there is a white rd nearby many times this is the issue.

ANYTIME YOU ORDER ONLINE LIST THE SHIP TO ADDRESS AS
JOHN DOE
% SIGNATURE REQUIRED

Sorry this happened to you but at least you have the new pink lady ps do not be supprised if two weeks from now 2 more KA show up .

I actually have a funny UPS story. At work, we ordered a number of webcams (around a dozen), for which we paid extra for expedited delivery. Well, the package never arrived, and the online tracking never went past the initial pick-up scan. In other words, UPS could confirm that they picked up the package, but couldn't say what happened to it after that. They insisted that the shipper had to file a claim, as that is who they contract with, NOT the addressee. To make a long story not quite so long, what ended up happening is that the company we bought the cameras from filed a claim and received reimbursement almost immediately. We cancelled the order and bought the cameras at a local store, because we couldn't wait for another package to be shipped, and we thought that would be the end of it. Nope. Two weeks later a UPS driver shows up with the box of cameras. I quickly called the company who sold them, and they said that they couldn't take them back, as they had received payment from UPS. UPS said they couldn't do anything with them, as they had already settled the claim. They suggested we sign for them and be happy.

I will have to say this. My DH worked for a company that loads and unloads the planes for UPS. They are not loaded and unloaded by UPS employees they are subcontracted out. I know for a fact that some of the people that used to work there would have sticky fingers and some of the packages would wind up in their cars. They also sometimes would open the packages take out the belongings and retape them up. Now this was 12 years ago but I know they still have the same company that he worked for still loading for the area we live in.

This thread has really made me sad. My husband is a UPS driver. He goes above and beyond for his customers. The other day in fact, he delivered to an older woman who asked him to bring the package inside and open it for her. Then she asked him to set it up for her. After that she even asked him if he would cut up her veggies for her (she had really bad arthritis). He did all of this without complaining. The requests were nhot out of the ordinary for him.

My UPS driver is great as well. If we are not home, he will put our package behind our fence so as not to attract attention from thieves. Every driver I have ever come in contact with has been very friendly personable and reliable. That's what the UPS company is!! It's a terrible shame that there are not very nice people out there and they should be reported so as not to taint the comany's reputation further.

Oh and the $27/an hour is not entirely true. They definitely don't start them at that rate. My hubby has been driving for 5 years now and just got that raise last year. they call it "topping out" He got another raise yesterday though. WooHoo!! They deserve it though. My DH leaves at 8am and gets home around 9pm. Christmas time is much much worse. Their trucks have no air conditioning and they are constantly on the move.

Please don't let a few bad apples completely dictate how you see the company as a whole.

This is so True I would say that over 95 % of the time I have a easy go with them. AS far as the drivers go I know for a fact we have some of the best! kudos to your husband for being a compassionate person . Wow, I'm so sorry this happened to you! I've had packages shown as delivered by UPS when I didn't get them and UPS took full responsability, someone once told me that once they pay for shipping with UPS they are automatically insured. So either the company you got your goods from or UPS will be held accountable, but don't worry, one way or the other your will not loose your $ and will get your babies (aka KA's). Good luck!

Sorry that so many of you are having problems with UPS. I personally have never had a package go missing or delivered to the wrong address. But I DO have a "mailbox" at the UPS store. When I am ordering my cake stuff or somthing expensive I have it delivered there. If its just some crap I'm not really worried about then I have them send it to either place(home or ups store).
We got the mailbox for other reasons and I know it's an expensive solution to your problem if you don't get packages all the time but if you have packages coming all the time I would look into getting a small mailbox there. Atleast you know they will be able to find their own location icon_rolleyes.gif And if the package still doesn't make it then you may have a shifty driver icon_confused.gif

I have the same problem with the postal system. They always claim to leave a notice which of course is not in my mail box. I have had to collect packages from the post office on two occasions using email shipment confirmation from both their site and that of the shipper.

On one occasion they claimed that a delivery was made when I never received it. I called the 1800 number and made a report which they said would go to consumer affairs, since that was about my fifth incident. My order was refilled by the shipper. Weeks later the original package showed up (torn and opened-damaged) and I had to send it back.

Right now I'm going through the same process for another package.
I do not have this problem with ups. Sometimes I try as had as I can to order stuff from sites that have ups delivery.

I think its the delivery person who has the problem of irresponsibility. When you try talking to a suppervisor or manager all you get is the run around.

Have another funny for yall....

Just two days ago I told the UPS driver that the previous tenant does NOT live here (4th times the charm? I dunno but I'm tired of hand delivering her packages to HER! that's their job not mine!)

Anyway yesterday I get the regular mail and low and behold there is a post card from UPS telling Ms. Reed to come to the following location or call for redelivery. Reason your package was returned to us (this part is HAND TYPED!!!! along with the address into a preprinted postcard) "RECEIVER MOVED, NOT DELIVERED" So please tell me if the received has MOVED why are you MAILING her a post card at the SAME address!??!?!?! Wouldn't you try to find her new address or return to sender with the notice that the receiver has moved and they need to contact her back and get a correct mailing address?!?!?! I swear SOME of the UPS people are the stupidest individuals I've ever met lol.... No offense to the ladies hubby who works there he's one in a million! Although I must say I'd love to play injured for my old UPS man mmmmmmmmmmmmm he was fine! lol
