my husband and I are possible about to get a dog for my son (we are still talking about the responsibility) but the dog is currently names Little Girl and that just really does not work for me, so we are trying to think of another name for HER. Some friends of mine are saying we should think of something bakery related (since I have a shop) Any suggestions?? I have had some suggestions of Cupcake, Flour etc. also regular names are fine too, I have just never been good at naming animals. She is a mix with some shepard in her, not real large, predominatley carmel color with some black in her also. I just thought this might be fun to ask my fellow cc'ers. Thanks all

Tootz? (sorry, first thing came to mind -- must have the Toots Sweets song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on my mind)

Candy (caramel coloring)

Sugar?

------------

some dogs name themselves --

had one once -- a terrier +??? mix (ok mutt) -- that was beautiful shade of brown, just like brown sugar and had a very bubbly personality -- bubblin' brown sugar -- sugar for short!

and then there was Scamp --

a miniature white poodle AKC registered under the name Shampoo (and there was more like "bubbles in the shower"

Shampoo lasted all of about 3 days --

this was one feisty, smart and playful dog -- who had bit of devil in him --

he'd run and grab a shoe as you were getting dressed and then "nope, not giving it back -- have to chase me!" YOU SCAMP -- mom would yell -- and it stuck.

I just got two kittens not long ago and we named one Angel and she was dubbed Moo Mow (Moo cow..) because she's white and has black spots just like a cow all over, and Precious was dubbed Cupcake because if she sees a cupcake she will attack for it lol...

lol My cats name is Mr. Tedward J Toodletoes, Teddy Toodletoes for short. For no other reason then we are goofballs, but mostly because both kids wanted to name him Teddy.
In my humble opinion if the dog is for your son than I think he should be the one to choose his name, with some helpful suggestions from his parents, of course...lol I don't know how old your son is but if he is a baby you don't want to dogs name to be "Bubby" or "gaaaa"..lol or something like that.
What kind / color is the dog?

some suggesting I really like that have already been posted:
Muffin or Muffy
Coco (could call her Mrs. Coco Muffinbutt..lol I know, I know I'm a dork)
Browine is a good old standby
Merangue (sp?) (could call her Mangy for short..lol like I said Dork)
or how about:
Choclate Chunks..hehe could call her Chunky...lol as in if she eats too many cakes she'll be...
Ok now I am just getting silly. Have fun with this name pick which ever one makes your son crack up laughing.

yeah, I was trying to get him to make some suggestions (he is 7) with not much luck - he was just being goofy (he is mildly autistic) so he was saying things like crumfy, moofermafer haha the most normal one was Cooper but not really good for a girl. so we are wanting to make some suggestions to him and see if he likes any of our choices icon_smile.gif

Ok I'll say it...I LOOVVEE Moofermafer, thats great! Could call her Moofy. Or you could change it to Mooferwafer and desgin a desert in honor of your son and dog called the Mooferwafer. I am visualising something with fluff for some reason. That would make the name fun fun fun to your son, and make his suggestion and the dog very speical. A memory he would never forget and always cherish. thumbs_up.gif

My poor pets have probally all been scared for life with the goofy names I have given them.

OMG that is hilarious! I would probably go for that one just because you could call her either betty or crocker or BC or Bet and only the "in the know" people would know her full name was betty Crocker.

We adopted a cat from a friend of my Mom's. His full name was Roscoe Rabinowitz. He was an orange fluffy tabby (beautiful) and I guess his fuzzy ears reminded her of her old rabbi friend (who had hairy ears!LOL) So, she made up that name. (and yes, she was Jewish too, if that matters).

I had a Coco - I love that name. Ginger would be good with her coloring.

I agree with Doug that dogs can name themselves sometimes. Our Bunny is like that. She started out with me calling her a snuggle-bunny when we were making the decision whether or not to get her. She loved to snuggle under my chin. When we got her home that adorable little snuggler was replaced with a spitfire that hopped everyehwere she went. So Bunny stuck.

Just to give an update - we did not get the dog we originally thought we would (she found another home for her before we could really get to spend some time with her) but by then we had already gotten kind of excited about a dog so we decided to go to our local shelter and take a look at some of their puppies and sure enough we found a little girl that we just fell in love with so I thought I would pass some pictures along. Her name is Maya and she is approximately 6 weeks old with some pretty darn sharp teeth that love my hair and toes icon_confused.gif she plays so go with my son and we just love her. Thanks to everyone who gave a suggestion on a name.

That dog is PRECIOUS!

About a year or so ago, I got my little brother a puppy. He named him "Big Boy". You know, from that Citibank commercial...haha.

Here's a picture of him as a baby, about a year ago. He's bigger, cuter, and much fatter now:

I have a cat (my avatar is him when he was a baby) whose name is Charlie from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I think it totally fits.

She's absolutely adorable!! Congratulations!!

A little long....

I miss my little yappy brat! I was able to find him a home (believe it or not when the repairman came to fix my dryer he left with not only the dog, but the carrying case, food, all his records beginning with those from the breeder, some toys and grooming products and leash). It wasn't easy, but I know it was the best thing for him. At five years old he was beginning to act more like a 12 year old.

He wanted to run and play a lot outside and when we got him as a puppy we had a really nice fenced in yard for our mini schnauzer. So when we moved to our current home which has a yard bigger than 2 acres, we couldn't afford to fence it and the invisible fence that I had been working on installing was sabbotaged. The wire that goes underground slightly was chewed through when I was 1/3 of the way finished!!! I would have had to start over (didn't think splicing would stand up to the water we get). So he would either have to be tied in the yard and then all he would do was lay there like a big lump, or be in the house and lay on one of my couches like a big lump (even put a hole in the cushion from all his laying down!!! Ya know....scratch...circle, circle, circle, scratch, scratch, circle, lay down).

Oh, and if he was outside without a leash he'd take off. No matter how much I worked with him training wise, the call of the great outdoors was too much. He'd be gone for a couple of hours at a time and come home with guests - ticks, ewwww! The last time he went on one of these excursions he was gone for four hours and when he came home the dryer repairman was walking behind him.

Destiny.

OH Good for you!!! I love to hear that people go to their shelter or rescue group to get a puppy!!! You will give a dog a loving, caring home....that she may not have gotten otherwise. KUDOS!!
We also have a dog, Lab, named MAYA.... thumbs_up.gif
It is from a Greek expression meaning "Great." Also....For Hindi speakers it is derived from a Sanskrit expression meaning ''Dream, illusion or illusory energy.'' So you have a GREAT dog! Perfect name!
I also think dogs 'pick" their humans...not the other way around! I came home from work one day...and my daughter was sitting on the sidewalk...under the truck was a small, black, tick infested puppy! THat was the begining of our life with BLAZER!! (The truck is a Chevy Blazer...so her name was a given) Congrats!

How is that pronounced? Is it like the month of May or as in "my"?
I love the name Myah ever since I saw the movie "Eight Below" - the lead female dog was named Myah (not sure of the spelling, but the pronunciation is "my".

I also love the name "Schatzie" (pronounced like Shot-zie)-it means sweetheart in German.
