Need A Non Refrigerated Lemon Filling...

I'm making a lemon cake with lemon buttercream and need a filling. I guess it doesn't have to be a lemon filling, just some sort of complimentary flavor. The simpler the better! Thanks!
All the purists out there will throw the book at me for this, but I've used canned lemon pie filling on several occasions with lemon cake and lemon BC. Granted~ homemade would be ideal, but I was in a rush. My customers have loved it. Lemon Curd is a popular filling also, but I haven't tried it yet.
Thanks so much, I'm not a purist and it's only a cake for my wilton class that I'll bring to work. Thanks for answering so quickly, I was just about to head to the grocery store and needed to know what to get
Many grocery stores sell lemon or lime curd in jars, which could easily be used as filling. They contain eggs, so you have to let people know, in case of allergies.
I have often used this as filling, and kept the cake out overnight, and they worked out fine.

If you want a lemon flavor, then lemon curd or lemon pie filling would work. If you want something else raspberry preserves or blueberry preserves are good with lemon cake as well.
I was thinking strawberry lemonade when I read the post. YUM!
Meaning use strawberry jam as a filling.
MMM! I love lemon & raspberry!
I have also used the canned lemon pie filling - people seem to love it! I have yet to try lemon curd - it's kind of pricey. One day I'll get around to trying a recipe!
