Whipped topping vs. Whipping Cream

I have a recipe (not for cake, sorry!) that is calling for 8 oz frozen whipped topping, unthawed. I have a carton of whipping cream on hand. Can I whip this and use it instead of the frozen whipped topping? Or does the frozen already prepared stuff have something else in it? If I can use it, how do I get 8 oz from my carton? Just measure in a measuring cup before I whip or do I need to weigh it out?

depends on what you're making...are you baking or cooking with it??
the whipped topping is sweet , whipping cream is not ...you can cook with this. Sorry that the best answer i have for you.

It's a salad (mixed in with jello). I bought too much and just want to use it before it spoils icon_smile.gif

If you whip the cream with powdered sugar, you should get a sweetened whipped cream taste, but I don't think it would be too stable for leaving outside.
