Ohhh!! I am so sorry!! I found another item I have used for a stand at Pier one. It was a square candle Holder(platform, I don't know what you call the things you set candles on). Maybe send out a family member to look at the candle section in a few stores. Walmart had a cool one too, but I'm guessing your's won't have it if it didn't have the shelf.

Good luck!!

Thanks Dyan, I will go take a quick look over there, problem is my bottom square tier is 14" so whatever I use is going to have to be pretty big. I think I'm just going to go buy a 18" masonite board and cover it with foil or something. I'm running out of time! I still have to assemble, ice, and put pearl dust on some seashells..... talk about being rushed! icon_redface.gif

Okay, okay!! Here is the next one I am going to do... I found this cool fish thing at Kirkland's (?) and I thought it would be perfect cake stand for a underwater themed cake. I am going to make a dummy cake for display because I think a real cake would be too heavy, but picture it at a wedding fair with a beta fish in the bowl and a underwater themed cake sitting ontop of the bowl Cool, huh?!! Wouldn't that be an attention getter!!

omg i'm heavily in to fish myself and would love this in my living room! wish i'd have known about it i'd have gotten it. going to costco today hope they have it icon_evil.gif

Thanks for the cake comments! Here is another stand idea ( I promise I am not trying to get more views! Just look at the stand. Should I blur out the cake? ) I know that is a pet peeve! icon_smile.gif )- I took the 12 inch plate from my cupcake stand and a vase with a heavy bottom- which I got for 75% off because it had two tiny chips on the rim I knew noone would see! and I filled it with those stones everyone uses to decorate with.

Thanks!

Nope, it's just sitting on it. But it felt very stable. The top of the vase is quite large.

I can't wait to show you guys the fish stand with the cake on it. I'm doing it for a show on the 7th and I almost have it done. It looks SOO cool!!

I absolutly love how your a bargain hunter and very very imaginative.. I've been looking at the cake plates etc.. and they are so expensive and you have just simple things from various places. I love the squat vase with the clear stones in them. You can change the stones to suit, awsome.

Leigh

icon_wink.gif PP or not I love seeing your cakes as they show how the plates work with cake

I am doing a black and white wedding cake in 2 weeks. I found an iron filagree surround made to go around a ceiling light fixture. I painted it black and will also illuminate it from underneath so light shines from under the cake and highlights the ironwork. The bride loved the idea. Will post a photo when i can.

I think the finished product and the display of the cake makes all of the difference. The last seashell themed cake was placed on a clear plexiglass covered with sugar sand. I'll be using that plexiglass again!!

Any chance anyone's seen something with a squirrel? I'm making some acorn cookies for a buffet and I'd love to have a squirrel holding the plate or peeking into a bowl or something like that!

Love the vase idea! If you wanted to make it even more non slip you could use clear caulking on the top edge. I think it would make a gripper like surface when dry!

superstar- you probably have cool tourist shops that have even neater ideas for stands!

Marthjo- great idea! You think let it dry and then put the plate on so it is changeable?

PS- The plate from my cupcake tree I used must be a 14inch not a 12 inch. The bottom tier is a 10 inch on a 12 inch cake circle.
