Help me. I did this cake for my daughters b-day last week. My friend wants me to do something similar for her, and has offered to pay me. What should I charge her? I've only done a couple of paid cakes for friends. This is a 10 in. cake with two layers. And the smash cake is a 6 in. 1 layer cake.
Thanks!

You do very nice work BTW...

If it was a stranger I would charge $40-$50 for the 10" and $10-$15 for the smash...but it's a friend and I just started charging...

My theory has been this for the past two years...(before I started charging)

I will do one free cake per family/friend...once I start charging I will do it for cost, unless they want something very elaborate, then it's half the price I would charge a stranger...

For example...I may be making a soccer themed graduation cake to feed $100 people at the $1.50 per person (sheet cake) it would have been $150.00, but I said I would charge them $75...

Hope this helps...it also depends on where you are...I live in rural NY (6 hours from The City).

I would charge $45 for a 10" and I usually give the smash cake for free. For friends I do usually charge a little less, however, it is completely up to you - its YOUR time.

My servings are 1"x2"x4"
Price per serving if there is only buttercream filling $2.00
serving's for 10" cake = 38

Total = $76.00
Smash Cake = Free for First birthday only, if not for a first birthday then it goes back to price per serving and my single layers are a little cheaper so $9.00

IMHO $76 is a lot!! I would NEVER pay $76 for a 10" buttercreme cake with simple designs!
Im a newbie in charging cake, but i would pay $45 for it !!
By the way is beautiful

You are not the only one! But that is ok, however if you won't pay then I won't be making you a cake. You will need to find someone else else to make the cake. But don't forget this cake will feed almost 40 people, it isn't a cake for $76 it is a cake for 40 people.

lol, you probably wouldn't like the 6" square cake that I sold for $60 then either.

Hun, don`t take it personal, Im just saying that depends on areas, basically here in Texas EVERYTHING is wayyyy cheaper than in other states, so I understand that you get to charge whatever you want, and regarding the 6" for $60, well I bet it was BEAUTIFUL, Im not saying is wrong, Im saying is not fair to price something when we lived in different states that charge different.
Honestly, I will love to charge that much for a 6" cake, but here we cant! Actually, the fruit cake that i have in my album, I sell it for $35, CHEAP YES!!!! And the chocolate version of that one, is $45.
And BTW if people actually pay you that amount of $$ on small cakes, man you must be good!!!!

Sorry I didnt notice the cake was a 10in/2layer...At least $45, the higher would be between $50-60 depending on your area!
