Lazysusan....there is not one bad looking cake in your photo's so you need to take some really deep breaths and relax. You can do it. Your cakes are gorgeous. I am assuming that you have discussed with the bride what colors and decorations she wants and how much cake you need. I would start baking today (thursday) so you have the cakes done. Then ice and decorate on friday. Deliver and set up on Sat.

Now see...was that so hard? ....easy girl....Breath.....in...out...in...out...Not too fast....slow it down....!! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Confidence....your cakes are great! You'll do just fine. I agree with sundine2 & mthiberge on the breathing and the drink. Both will help you get through this without panic. Looking forward to seeing your picture posted. birthday.gif

Ok I have not done a wedding cake yet. But I agree with everyone else. BBRREEAATHH WHHOOWW... Now take a small drink RELAX. Start out slow and build the momentum that will come when you get into it. Give yourself a few breaks or you will second guess yourself. When you feel that coming on walk away. Get a pop or coffee for energy and back you go. Your mind needs to breath also. You will get through this. Tell yourself that if you need to over and over again. You will do great thumbs_up.gif What ever you do don't come to your computer unless you are deseraptly in need of help. You know you will be distracted thumbsdown.gif Don't do it. See you as soon as you are done with your cakes icon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gif GOOD LUCK See your cake soon thumbs_up.gif

Don't think of it as a wedding cake - think of it as 2, 3 4, 5 - how many cakes that kinda all have the same theme. Go cake by cake. Think small picture and the big picture will come together.

All the while in your head you are hearing:

"I'm sooooooo excited, I can do it, this is great, it'll be beautiful; wow, look what I've done!"

Piece of cake!

Well I've just finished frosting the bottom tier. I had to make 2 batches of the frosting which takes a couple of hours for each batch. I have 2 more tiers to go and then I have to put fondant over all 3 and decorate. I just feel like I am running out of time. I'm sleepy, I have to go shopping to buy a dress for the wedding (I'm also a guest) and I'm supposed to be at the rehearsal on Friday the day before the wedding. I hope I can do it all.

You'll be fine! And your cakes are great- I can't wait to see how this wedding cake turns out!

One question for you- don't worry about answering now because I know you're busy and stressed...What type of icing are you using that it takes 2 hours to make a batch?

I'm making my famous "Bittersweet Chocolate Frosting". Everyone loves it but it takes a long time to cool down and set up. But it's well worth the wait.

Sounds like your really getting the job done. Once you actually start you usually calm down. Last year when I made my brother's wedding cake for 230 I was frantic. It was my first wedding cake too. Everyone at the wedding could't believe I had done the cake. It might have been the bride's day but I glowed almost as much with all the compliments. I'm sure it will be the same for you. Relax and have a great time at the wedding.

If its any consolation at all, I think you make really beautiful cakes. I would consider myself lucky if I had you making a wedding cake for me.(Hope I NEVER have to have another one) but if I did, I would be happy to have you make it for me. Try to relax icon_smile.gif

LazySusan:

I just went through the SAME gamut of emotions last week! I did my first BIG wedding cake. I'd done the tiny ones before, for people I'd never get to meet, but I'd NEVER done a big one--for another friend!

When the alarm went off on Friday morning, I literally went through a scenario in my head where I wondered just what would happen if I didn't even get up that morning! I was actually seeing a reception without a cake. It seemed sooo overwhelming to me.

The biggest thing that frightened me was that the cake was going to be ugly. I knew it was going to taste amazing, I just didn't think I had the skills to make it pretty.

OMG--I sooo know how you are feeling! The things that helped me were:

1. Actually getting STARTED
2. I took a pill. Yes, really.
3. I called a couple of my friends to "cheer me through it."
4. Working ahead! It's MUCH better that way.

Seriously though. It's amazing how much the power of laughter and friendship has to help you through something you view as "tough." icon_smile.gif

And, if you're as panicked as I was, there's certainly NOTHING wrong with having a mild drink, or taking something to help calm you--just as long as you don't drive or go out of the house! icon_cool.gif

Finally, your work is beautiful.

YOU'RE DOING GREAT!! GO GIRL! GO GIRL! GO GIRL! thumbs_up.gif

I love all of you! You are my inspiration and what keeps me going. Thank you for all the kind words. I'm still freakin' out because of this being my first wedding cake and all but hopefully I'll be fine.

Hugs to all,
Lazy_Susan
