I can't believe my Sunbeam stand mixer burned out today. I was just making bc frosting- not even something really heavy.I had just creamed the butter when I heard a different sound from the mixer. Now the beaters won't turn. Certainly wish I could afford a Kitchen Aid. but I'm afraid I'd do the same thing with a really expensive one. .
Sorry to hear about your mixer!!! Have you tried ebay for a KA? I was watching a couple of them this weekend just to see what they sold for and they both went for under $100! (one claimed to be factory sealed but you have to do your research). I already have one, I was just curious. It made me wish I needed one LOL!
I feel you there! I burned out my mom's mixer making b/c also. it actually smelled burnt. I was in the middle of making a cake for someone and had to run down to Target and buy a cheap mixer to get me through. When I got back I realized DUH!! My mom has a heavy duty mixer. Boy did I feel dumb. lol Oh well. doesn't hurt to have two mixers. =)
Around Christmas time and especially after Christmas they come down on the price of KA's. Perhaps you could even get someone to give you a new KA as your Christmas present. That's how I got mine

Been there, done that too! I used to go through mixers like water until I got my KA, so I know what you mean!
I got my through Air Miles points about 5 years ago -- which meant giving up travel points! LOL What's more important? LOL
My SIL got her's for Christmas a few years ago as well. She just told every that's what she really wanted and a bunch of us got together on the gift that year.
Here's wishing one under the tree for you too!
Hi, I don't know if they still have any but amazon has refurbished 5 qt. kitchenaid mixer for 129 with a 25.00 off coupon. I just order one for my MIL for a Christmas/Birthday present. It came today and looks great. If only it had been the 6 qt. I would have gotten that for myself.
You'll just keep burning out the Sunbeam's so in the end it will be cheaper to go with a KitchenAid. I have never heard of one burning up that at least not the lowest wattage they sell.
i work my kitchenaid pretty hard, no troubles. My friends KA pooped out but she called the company and they replaced it!!!!!!
Hi Y'all,
Happy pre-holidays!!
Costco has a lifetime warranty on what they sell. Limited colors though. They are on sale for about $229.00, right now and usually are until x-mas. I make pasta in mine without any problems. As hot as it gets making pasta, I keep expecting it to burn up. (Never buying store bought pasta again!) KA has a forum with technicians to answer questions.
Rebates for KA and accessories will be coming out soon. Extra bowls and paddles are on my wish list.
Happy baking to everyone!
I bought a DeLonghi DSM7 7-Quart Stand Mixer for my business and have never regretted the investment. (heavy-duty 1,100-watt motor with a 10 year motor warranty). This thing is a workhorse! (I have my old beloved KA in my own kitchen, and even tho I love it...it doesn't hold a candle to this DeLonghi.

Go to the above and read the customer reviews...
I have the DeLonghi DSM7 7-Quart as well!! I LOVE it. It was on my wish list for years -- from way back when it was Kenwood (made in UK), which was bought by DeLonghi.
Surprised this mixer isn't more popular, it performs so much better than KA...no comparison.

Yup. My KA normally retails for over $300 but I found it on Amazon for half that price, plus free shipping AND KA was giving out a $20 instant rebate if you ordered during a certain week. This was right before Christmas though. If you can wait that long you'll save a fortune on your mixer.

I agree! The older KA's like mine are wonderful machines, but the newer ones just aren't made as well. (If anyone thinks I'm crazy just look them up on Amazon.com and read the unhappy customer reviews).
Jumping over to DeLonghi wasn't an easy move for this staunch KA lover, but it turned out to be a smart move.
KitchenAid mixers of the current day have plastic gears that burn out too. I found that my Hamilton Beach Eclectrics mixer, which cost $169, has been as good as any KitchenAid for a fraction of the cost. When I can afford it, I'll get the KitchenAid Pro 6, which seems to be the only KA that stands up, so to speak, to my standards these days.
Okay, I really want a DeLonghi..... not because they are any better than KA, but because it sounds so uppity!!!
Seriously. I would invest in a KA. Other wise you are going to just keep burning them out. One year I went through 5 mixers in one Christmas season.... Then I got my KA.

I don't think they still offer the coupon but I got in on this deal the other day too... I got the 450 watt refurb with 5 qt bowl for $124 after the coupon and free shipping. I had been wanting an extra bowl for my 450 watt 6qt machine but just the bowl alone is over $60. So I figured for just a little more I could get a whole second machine.
The refurbs seem fine because they offer a 6 mos warranty and come as good as new in the factory box, and the brand new ones offer only a year.
For those of you who can't afford a new or even a refurbished Kitchen Aid.
Read the estate auction notices. I bought my first kitchen aid in late 60's that way, it worked fine until I got my "new one" in the late 70's. Passed my vintage one on to a friend who used it heavily for 4 or 5 more years until it bit the dust. Who promptly called me up and yelled at me for having "spoiled" her. By the way my 250 watt 'new kitchen aid' has never had a problem and is plugging away just like it did when it was new. The only time I have to give up on it is when a recipe calls for 5 lbs of flour or something like that.
I lost my mixer yesterday while mixing buttercream too! It's the second one that I have ruined. I can't wait to get a KA. It 's on my Christmas List this year. I never thought to look on ebay...thought shipping would be outrageous. Maybe I will look into it.
Check out Bosch mixers....they are the bomb! I can make 6lbs of butter cream at one time in mine and it does not even struggle. I make bread and put in 20c of flour....that's over 5lbs......and it just whips it out. They are no bigger than a kitchen aid and are built to last for ever. The lady who sold me on them had one for 20 years and she baked 100 loaves of bread a week for her business....and that was the mixer she used. It is just awesome.
I just bought my first Referbished Kitchen Aide 6 qt Pro for $239.00.
You can Have my Sunbeam. I was so afraid to do Royal icing cause one day it just stopped on me It did start back.
I can NOT wait to to use to tomarrow. I am going to break her in with royal...............yeeepeee.
I burned up a sunbeam within the first year I had it (I wasn't into cakes back then but I've always loved to bake). When I sent my husband to get a cheap hand mixer he came back with a KA because he figured it would be cheaper in the long run. Mine was the small one but I've had it close to 7 years now and I'm not very gentle with it.
I got a KA mixer in Jan. I hear it lug down sometimes making BC. Is that a bad thing? Hope not.
I saw some on sale at Wal-Mart this evening for $198 (or so...less than $200)!! I paid about $300 for mine. I think all the ones at Wal-Mart were white.
I love my KA. I have a can opener attachment and a meat and veggie grinder attachment. I love the many things it can be.
Good luck!
Okay, I really want a DeLonghi..... not because they are any better than KA, but because it sounds so uppity!!!
If you have issues with something I post kindly take it off forum into PM.
I've been through 5..............."YES".................5 SunBeam Mixers. I always save my receipts!!!! If I haven't had it to long they will let me exchange.
I've learned my lesson, I use Sunbeam for cakes & KITCHEN-AID for frosting.
...Certainly wish I could afford a Kitchen Aid. but I'm afraid I'd do the same thing with a really expensive one. .[/quote]
Trust me, you won't burn out the KA. I too burned out my sunbeam stand mixer. I was making MMF. There were lots of sparks and the smell of burned wires and plastic when it was all said and done.
My DH bought me a KA and cake life has been perfect ever since. It is well worth the investment. Plus, I have already made his money back!
Husband just bought a new KA package for me. So far, it's been really nice to step away from the mixer, to have hands free to do something else!!!!
I totally agree. It is so nice to mix hands free and do something else! I'd be lost without my KA! It isn't an appliance to me, it is a work of art and a part of the family!
I too own a 6qt. KA pro, purchased for me by my boyfriend in the late winter this year. I love it! It can handle 4 batches of cookies at one time and even three recipes of B/C at once with no problem!
Definitely invest in one...it's better then going through a ton of sunbeams!(sunbeams are good but just can't handle the heavy duty needs of a cake baker.)
ok....don't shoot me, but my DH took me out to dinner Friday nite, and we went into a super target nearby (haven't been in there since it opened), anyhow, he was casually looking at the KA's, when I came down the aisle. I started looking at them also, and literally almost had a heartattack!!
The artisan was on clearance for ...everyone sit down....$99.98!!! You saw it right ladies...$99.98!! I almost started crying, thinking in my head -what bills can I move around for a couple weeks? I DO have some "mad money", but...ohhh...I just don't know. I WANT IT SOOOO BAD!!!! sniff sniff....
