I just had a call from a bride she wants to come by for a consultation. I do not have a very big protfolio to show her. But I am able to duplicate most of the cakes in the picture gallerys. What would you do in my situation? Please help need to call her back soon. Thanks

well i think you should call her back and tell her to bring some pictures of cakes she likes and then when she arrives you can also show her your portfolio. you might want to suggest this site to look for a cake and maybe some other sites-- this way when she comes over she already has an idea of what she wants and you can look at it and tell her if you are capable to do it or not. or maybe suggest something similar that you can do by showing her things on this site.

My wedding cake portfolio is not very big either, so I bought a bridal photo album and filled it with "idea" photos. I organized them by category -- modern, traditional, and whimsical. I make it very clear to my brides that I did not do the cakes in the album, it is just for ideas. They really love looking at all the pictures. Just make sure and pick only cakes you're sure you can do!

I had this issue when I first started out.

I kept (and still do) a file of all the new wedding cakes from bridal magazines and the latest cope of "Wedding Cakes" magazine (available at Borders Books Store) onhand. I told the brides. here a just a few of my cakes, but look through what's "Hot" right now - see if you like anything...

I'm not sure I would turn her completely loose on a website like CC. It can be overwhelming with ideas. There are lots of ideas floating out there for brides and she probably already has somethings in mind. Have her bring ideas and things that she likes including her wedding colors,theme, time of wedding, time of year and cakes that she likes. That will help you get a picture of what the overall feel of the cake should be and then you can incorporate those ideas into her perfect cake! Good luck!
kelleym also has a great idea but you might not have time to organize something like that for this one.

Please don't turn brides loose on CC-we won't be able to complain about Bridezillas later if they are watching!!!
