Well, I just got back from delivering a wedding cake...a day earlier than I thought I was supposed to!
For some reason, I kept thinking Tuesday the 18th, Tuesday the 18th. I even had the date written in my planner for Tuesday! My phone rings at 7:30..."Karen, are you going to deliver our cake?" GULP!
"ummm.....isn't your wedding tomorrow?" (like he wouldn't know his own wedding date.) Fast forward...
I manage to, with my husband's great and wonderful help, roll the fondant and put it on the 3 tiers of cake (small cake, 9-6-4" square). Assemble it, dowel it, and fix the fondant. Melt chocolate, spread out in pan, freeze, and crack it to assemble around the cake....it was a geometric design around the cake.
I had to use a frosted piece of glass for the cake base, 'cause I was going to buy it tomorrow! It worked...and I decorated that, too.
Jump in car, drive to beach house, fumble my way up stairs of wrong house (no front porch lights)...go to right house, find everyone on the beach, and someone yells "YAY, here's the cake!"...and "at least we know it's fresh". It was a beautiful setup with a few long tables, tiki torches, and the sound of the surf. Groom was very gracious and did not throw me in the ocean.
Drive home, husband had called to let them know I was on the way when I left earlier...he said the groom did not care about refund as long as cake looked and tasted like it should. It does, and I did it in one hour.
And thank you, honey! He can roll fondant with the best of 'em.
(He also got the kids to bed AND cleaned up the kitchen so I could come home and cry.) But no tears, just a big sigh of relief that everything worked out.
And on the way home, I thought...here's a story for CakeCentral!

AWESOME! That's my worst nightmare - someone calling or coming to p/u a cake, and it's not done! Way to pull it out!

I told my husband what y'all said, and he just grinned. No, he has no brothers! Not even any male cousins...
In my rush, I never took a picture (and I don't think I'm getting any from the couple, either, LOL)

Rosiecakes: we have a son, LOL...

And trophy? The only trophy I deserve from this near-debacle is not getting thrown in the ocean when I delivered their cake an hour after their dinner ended!

I am laughing though...this summer has been quite the learning experience for me!

And my husband says he will be available for rent, if the price is right.

Congrats on the cake!

And with no brothers and no male cousins he pretty much HAD to grow up understanding women. What choice did he have? icon_lol.gif
