Was thinking of purchasing the Wilton 17" Scrollwork cake stand because Michael's has a 50% off coupon this week, so it would only cost $40.00. Anyone used this and have feedback on whether it is a good investment.

Also, anyone know of any good cake stand suppliers that are inexpensive. I really like the looks of the footed metal stands that I see in so many of the gallery photos (like the one pictured). But, they seem so expensive.

Thanks, in advance, for your input!

Cake stands are somewhat expensive especially since you want to purchase good ones so that they will last for years of use, but here are two sites that carry a wide selection of stands.

I remember a thread where someone bought a bunch of stands from JoAnn's in the clearance rack....the only thing was they were plant stands that she is using for cake stands....I just also saw a wedding cake on a stand and someone asked where she got it and she said plant stand for $6 at JoAnn's so I am assuming it was the same person....might try checking that out..I will see if I can find what I am talking about.

I remember the same thread about someone using plant stands for cake stands. I got some really neat ones last year when Hobby Lobby was clearing out plant stands, I got them for 70% off and there are 3 in graduated sizes. They work great and are very sturdy.

ok I found the cake I was thinking of...thought that $6 plant stand made an awesome cake stand....

something to think about anyway!

Edited to say I bet a full price plant stand is still way cheaper than most "cake" stands... that said I like that scroll one you are talking about, I have admired it at Michaels myself, but I am not making wedding cakes or large cakes yet...

I actually just recently purchased this cake stand at AC Moore with a 50% off coupon. It was for my brothers wedding cake. i have a picture in my photos of the stand. It is a nice stand and it did its purpose. But i think i am going to try to sell it maybe b/c i don't plan on making any cakes for awhile.

The bakery I used to work for had 2 of these. They do really well, however, they don't add a lot of height to the cake. So if you have a wedding cake on the smaller side, it doesn't showcase it well.

One thing that a banquet hall around here is using is a large square of beveled glass (go to a glass place) and it sits on four to six square vases. It's a nice look because you can hang beads off the glass, fill the vases with petals, tulle, etc... it's very versatile. And CHEAP!

I have 4 of those Wilton cakes stands and got them all with a 50% off coupon. I took a friend and Id buy 2 at a time. I got them all out to use them this summer and one was not painted the same gray color than the other were. So after the wedding I took them outside and spray painted them all the same silver. I have used these a lot. Sandy

On one of the threads someone said Ashley furniture has cake stands for very little money. I am going to go check them out.
I used the glass with the vases underneath for my son's wedding cake. The round glass was from Hobby Lobby and I paid 24.99 for it. I thought that was a good price because it is super thick glass.

I've purchased all three sizes of the stands but have not yet used them. I did use coupons at Michael's. I think if you want them you should purchase them now. I really think that Wilton will not be carrying them any longer. They are not listed in the 2007 yearbook and when you go to the site, they only show the 17" one. I could be wrong but that's what it seemed like to me.

As I said before I have 4 of them that I got there all one sale. Now IM glad I did!! I hadn't noticed they didn't have them in the new book. I have one 9 inch, 2 of the 13 inch then 1 of the 17 inch. They really look nice together as different tiered cakes. You might check on e-bay. I saw the Wilton garden stand on there cheap that someone had bought it and only used it one time. Sandy
