Is this a problem if I want to get into cake decorating? I was just thinking over a cake in my head and I thought if I could draw it would be much easier!! What do I do?

I can't draw to save myself!!! You just have to think up other ways of being creative with icing!

You would be amazed how much graph paper can help you draw, or use the templates in the galleries. I use graph paper and that way I know my cake is to scale the way I envision it. I use colored pencils, and I am NOT a freehand artist! I always tell my clients, "luckily I am better with cakes than I am with pencils" and they just laugh. A rough sketch gets the idea across and leaves lots of room for them to be amazed when they see their cake!

I can't really draw. icon_smile.gif I did draw out one cake the other day on paper, but I was just trying to get a rough idea of what I wanted to do, nothing fancy.

Have you tried drawing with an icing bag? I can not draw a stick figure on paper to save my life, but for some reason I have found that I can do all types of things with icing. I have found myself drawing boxes of crayons, copying designs from party plates and all sorts of other things that I could never do on paper. Give it a try on a practice cake-you may be surprised.
