I am confused regarding making the sugar and putting it into bags. How long do they keep? Do you reheat them in the microwave and how do you know they are hot enough to put on a pump? How long do bubbles last? Hours, days... please advise.
They can keep up to 6 months in a good quality 4mm thick plastic bag. Longer if you put blue silica gel in with it.
Yes you reheat it in a microwave. Or if you have all the time in the world then you can leave it under the heat lamp to warm up.
I have bubbles that are 9 years old.
Sounds like you need to find yourself a nearby class to take or a good book but I hope that helps,

Thanks for asking Lutie,
The first run was sold before it even finished getting printed. I only printed 500 copies as well.
We're making some changes and then running a larger number of books in September.
I love everything I read ans all the instructions and pics were great!
I'm saving this for sure!
The tutorial is helpful but I don't understand how to get the bubble off of the tube and to make sure it seals. Do the scissor blades need to be heated or should the sugar still be warm enough to cut? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I really want to try this.
Awesome! Thanks for posting!
Jenna, The OP said she heats the scissors with a blow torch in order to cut it. But IDK about if it has to be warm still. HTH some!

You cut them off with a hot scissors. Also, Do not seal them. The heat will trapped inside and the bubble will burst.
OK, I just watched the sugar pump making videos on kincaellen's site. Thanks so much kincaellen! They were a huge help! I'm new to this site and new to cake decorating. Saving $$ anywhere I can is a huge help.

Do you get blood pressure bulb pumps at medical supply stores? How difficult is this to do? Do they burst easy? How far in advance can you make them? How would you transport them? The bigger the piece of sugar the bigger the bubble? Do you make sure the sugar is completely enclosed around the tip of the bulb pump? Any other tricks?
Thanks so much!!!!
WOW someone going full hog into bubble's LOL
Yes you get the bulb and valve at medical supply stores.
It's easy to make a pump. See www.jeff-the-chef.com/book.html for instructions.
You can make them 12 years in advance if you keep them cool and dry.
Transport them in bubble wrap (PUNNY) and in ziplock airtight baggies.
Your sugar to blow the bubble should be about 50% of the finished bubbles size.
Use a METAL canula for the pipe part of the pump and yes you have to seal it tightly.
I have to get back to teaching the basic sugar sculpting students now, but they asked me to drop in and help out on here 'cause i've been absent for a while..LOL

OMG! I to have been searching all day! I knew there had to be an easy do-it-yourself method for making sugar bubbles! Thank you for the awesome pics!
p.s. if the cake is kept at room temp, how long do the sugar bubbles keep their form?
I've read somewhere that coating the sugar creation with confectioners glaze protects it against humidity. Has someone tried this?
Does anyone have a recipe for this without using isomalt? If so, could you please pm me or email me with it. I need it asap, thanksa so much for any help you can give me.

I have no idea if this is the right forum for my post, but I'm trying to make a special piece for a friend of mine. He is a huge partaker of the herb and an equally big fan of candy, so I figured I would make him something special.
I'm going to be either working with Jolly Ranchers or Rice Krispy treats. My brother in-law told me that if I melted the Jolly Ranchers down till they reached a gooey, malleable state and attached the goo to the end of a PVC pipe, I would be able to blow the candy into my desired object.
Is this true? I am trying to make a smoking piece, not to smoke out of but to look at and eventually eat but I wanted to gather as much information as I could and see if there was any truth in what my Brother in-law said.
If anyone could help me or give me any more idea's that would be terrific. Thanks!
