The almond extract is a good question to ask JanH because I do believe that it isn't actually made out of actual nuts...but please check with her first icon_smile.gif

Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing, could someone tell me where I can order Hi Ratio (Sweetex) from. Can you buy it in the market? We can't always get all the stuff we need here in Hawaii, it is much easier on the mainland, but if I can order it somewhere, I would love to try your recipe Sugar shack. i will be ordering the Wedding Bouquet soon.

my understanding is that pure almond does have nut in it, but imitation almond doesn't. i would ask your friend if imitation almond is okay, she will probably know. as for whether its in the wedding bouquet i have no idea, why don't you call the lady who makes it and ask her? im sure she'll understand allergy issues.

I received my Wedding Bouquet yesterday and made my first batch of b/c with it tonight. It definitely has a wonderful smell and the taste it give b/c is excellent. Some how - it cuts the sweetness of the p/s and the b/c doesn't seem as slick - and I have been using hi-ratio shortening.

I still was not sure how much to add - hopefully Sugarshack will jump in with a guide - so I put about 1 TBSP in Sugarshacks recipe for b/c.

I will tell my customer about the new icing tomorrow and hopefully I will get some feedback from the guests at the bridal shower and see what they think.

It took 10 days from the date I mailed my check to the day I received the flavour.

This is where it is said to be sold in the other thread http://www.thebakerskitchen.com/BAKEWARE_SHOPPE/Baking_Ingredients/Food_Items/Buttercream_&_Shortenings/ready-made_buttercream_&_shortenings.htm

The thread is here.. http://forum.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=19948&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=75 Page 6 is where she speaks of where she buys hers, but I'm pretty sure any high ratio shortening will work.

Good luck. I hope this helps.

For those of you who have used this already, can you tell me if it has an artificial taste to it? I am sensitive (taste) to artificial flavorings and I don't like the aftertaste they leave. I prefer to use pure almond or pure vanilla extract.

I read where 1 quart was $24 plus $8 S&H. Has anyone ordered a smaller amount and if so, how much was it?

I hate to spend $24 + $8 for a quart and not like it.

I appreciate any feedback or comments.

DarkChocolate,

I spoke to Miss Sandra today and I'm going to get 8oz. for $7.00 plus $4.60 for shipping. She is such a nice lady.

Maybe this smaller quantity will be better for you to try and see if you like it.

Hope this info helps you.

MG,

Thank you so much for replying. I am excited about trying this flavoring. The 8oz size would be great for me to try.

I just ordered a gallon of pure almond extract. Can you tell I like almond. I have used almost 1 quart in less than 3 months. I use only almond extract in my icing and I also use it for my biscotti.

I'm the same. I love almond. I go through it like crazy.

I do plan on ordering some of this in September, though. I wish I could order it sooner, to use on my Mother's birthday cake, but it just isn't in the budget this month.

Let me know how you like it DarkChocolate. I'm very sensitive to after taste as well. I think that's why I can't eat anything with raspberry flavoring in it. The after taste just gags me.. heh

Thanks!

Holly

HOLY SMOKES!!! I just placed an order through Bakerskitchen --the site that Holly mentioned and so did Sugarshack in the other thread link. They are in Toledo, Ohio. I'm 5 minutes from Toledo. I called them up and they have 2 locations one in Toledo and one in Perrysburg, Ohio that is a store front open to the public. The guy who answered the phone was so nice! He was asking me all kinds of questions and even offered to cancel the shipping to where I could save money if I wanted to pick it up instead. I'm so impressed with their service already.

I just ordered both the flavoring from B & B and the sweetex from the website given in this forum. I am so excited to get the hi-ration stuff. I've never used it, and haven't been able to find it where I live. I can't wait to try them both.

I have used Sugarshack's recipe, sort of. I didn't have the hi-ratio or the flavoring, so I improvised and used the Wilton class b/c recipe. I made the creamer/water liquid and substituted it for the water. WOW! Just that made a HUGE difference in the b/c. It was more stable, creamier, and smoother. I also followed her tips for getting those perfect edges. Let's just say that I'm no Sugarshack; but I can see the difference already. It'll take some practice, but man did it make my life easier. Thanks Sharon. Happy caking!

zubia,

Hi! I order my almond and vanilla from National Flavors. The website is www.nationalflavors.com/products

The gallon of Pure Almond extract was $20.25. I paid $7.25 for a quart in the past and decided to order the gallon this time. My last order in May, I order 2- 1 quart bottles and my shipping was $6.
