I'm so angry at both of them right now! I have been working on a cake for two days b/c it has been one problem after another. I had my final Wilton class II tonight and had made an extra cake to decorate and had it almost finished. I had to leave the cake sitting on the counter, it was fondant & b/c I had nothing to put it in b/c I was taking my only container to class. So I told my husband NOT to let the dogs in the house (our big dog has a bad habit of jumping up to the counter lately) and explained there is cake sitting on the counter. He says "OK".
Well I come home to find only the cake board sitting on the counter! I ask what happened......he took our son for a walk and let the dogs in the house....ALONE!!!! Then he has the nerve to say, "It was just a practice cake.....it's not like you were making it for something specific" Then he says, it must have been good b/c Roxie (dog) didn't leave any crumbs! She ate and entire oval cake!!!
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Rotten dog!!
I am so sorry....thats terrible...but ...when you are over being mad...can I laugh???? Its an awfully cute story.
I hate to tell you how much I'm laughing right now! It sounds like something my 80lb mutt would do, anything to sneak a bite of people food.
hope ur dog doesnt get sick that much sweet stuff .. id be mad id prob cry then after awhile id laugh ..
OMG I'm so sorry but that's way to funny LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a cat and she loves sweets but she can't eat a whole cake LOL
Wandy
ok That is way to funny....sorry it happened though.
I have a 4 year old that loves to sample when mommy is not watching
He got a whole handprint in the last cake I made.
Looks like no more treats for Hubby
Have a good day Denise
I can relate to the experience, believe me! What you want to do is keep the picture available and put it where DH can see it with a caption that says "The cake that was not specifically for my Wilton !! final class"...... guilt, guilt, guilt!
Oh man, and dog, of course! But man could have prevented the dog deal!!!
I'd print that picture very large, many times, with "It was just a practice cake?" and put that up all over the house...so he couldn't possibly forget what he did, or didn't! Never let him forget!
Like Debsuewoo said: Guilt, Guilt, Guilt!
Janice
That would have been my first response...then , but after all is said and done I'd be laughing with the rest, sorry but that is a good story!!!
Hope your dog is fine after the sugar rush, probably wouldn't let her stay in too long after eating all of that...know what I mean?
I hope you are no longer angry-I am CRACKING UP! Poor doggie, he can't even tell you he has a tummy ache...Bad Hubby!
Ok, after some sleep I was able to cool down a bit. ..still angry at husband, but can laugh at the dog. It's hard to be mad at her, she's a dog and when the opportunity is there...she had no choice!! But she did have a rough night though. She was not feeling well at all. Her belly was hard all night and she just laid around. Could tell she was miserable Unfortunately, I don't think she will hesitate if the opportunity is ever presented again!
Thanks for all the...um...support and understanding!!
Well it's totally understandable with your being upset about the cake, but omg did the dog get a nice treat or what??? lol I bet her tummy did hurt... thank goodness I have 2 dachshunds and they can't reach on the counter to eat my cakes!! I'd put the pics up all over too to remind the hubbie of "BAD BAD Hubbie!!" the dog knew no better.. but Hubbie did! lol
Very frustrating, but great picture! You should use that for an advertising picture--good to the last crumb!
Kristy LOL! That's what I call taking lemons and making lemonade! You should be in marketing!
TAlk about hubbie happiness going to the dogs----I can see where you would be upset-it would have been different if you hadn't told hubbie about the cake-next time ask him if he has his "listening ears" on-they all hear but do they listen??? While it WAS nice for him to take your son for a walk....
WOW...if my husband ever said that to me, especially about one of my cakes he'd be outside with the dogs! I am kinda laughing too. Sorry!
OMG..
Well if your anything like me, I would be adding another kennel. Only no blanket to lay on and well I would fill his water bowl every other day until he got the point. When I say something don't just HEAR me LISTEN to me!!!! The dog deserves water changed everyday he has no way of defending himself.
OMG I am dying here LOL... Your Hubby actually had the audacity to say "only a practice cake"? I would put him out in the dog house with the dog and see how he "likes them apples" That will teach him that it's NOT only JUST a practice cake.
Princess
Sorry... but can't help laughing. Maybe he should have walked the dog instead of your son.
Great Story! Remeber that one for the future for motivation for the hubby! Say "remember when?"
Poor Dog!! I can relate. My daughter pulled an iced cake in the floor one night!! So no more deco while the kids are up!! I have 4 of them and boy they can do just as much damage as your puppy! Good Luck with the next one!
I hope this never happens again to you or to anyone here!
But if it does here's a suggestion for the dogs. Give them small teaspoon/tablespoon depending on how big they are of peroxide and take them outside. It will cause them to um send back what they have eaten. It's really good if you've had a dog accidentally get into some chocolate or something you know they shouldn't have.
My MIL had to use it when one of their labs ate a kitchen dishwashing glove LOL !!
I can definitely relate to your story! We have a big yellow lab that is always sneaking around the kitchen!!! She actually belongs to my sister...but somehow ended up at our house! I baked a cake one day and thought I had put it far enough back on the counter. WRONG!!! I came back to find the cake was gone...and smudges of icing on the floor! I called my sister and said...."Come get your dog!!!!" But she ended up staying! A couple of days later...I baked another cake...and was letting it cool. I went back to decorate it...and yes you guessed it...GONE!!!! I again called my sister very angry...and she said "What happened...did the dog eat another cake???" And I said yes...and then she told me she was working and hung up me!!! Needless to say...even after all that...the dog is STILL with us!!!! But I really love your story and picture!
traci
OMG That sounds like something that would happen in my house (or esspecially TinaRe's (my best friend) But my dogs know the pup will be in her crate and my big dog lays in the floor not daring to hardly breathe while I decorate. I think he learned his lesson when he stole a Club Sandwich that had toothpicks in it. He sees sharp objects around cakes and quivers in fear. I really hope that your course 2 cake (not the "practice" one as your hubby said) came out well, Im sure that it did!!I do LOVE Kristy's marketing idea! And this will be the cake that will be in your album forever!
I am sorry about your cake, cause only us Wilton class partakers know the hard work we put into getting our cakes right for class, but my favorite sayings is "Don't Get Mad, Get Even" A day will come when something is important to your hubby, and when something happens naturally or with your help, just look nonchanlantly and say "It was only......" Ex. When your husband is really hungry, let the dog in to to help him eat!
I can relate to that...
When I was taking classes, each of my kids got mini wedding cakes for their birthdays that yr. because I was practicing, and getting ready to do my daughter's wedding cake last yr. I don't know why men think what we do is non important.... The closer it got to my daughter's wedding the crabbier I got... The poor dog wasn't allowed in my kitchen for 2 wks... and everyone was ready to move out of the house the week of baking and decorating... Try making meals, cleaning, and everything else while working around a big wedding cake...lol.
I got through it... the dog got the cake cuttings and icing for being so good...
I hope this doesn't happen to you again.
Happy baking,
cakegal
