Okay so I know you can buy the foil stuff to put on your cake boards but sometimes I want a different look. What are some things you can use to cover your boards without having grease stains? I would love your ideas! Thanks so much!
There is some debate about how food safe it is, but a lot of people use contact paper.
Sometimes I just cover mine in fondant and make patterns that match the cake or at least the color scheme.
You can wrap with anything but I use contact paper on top of it. I have never had a problem.
I've used sooooo many different things......any paper product, wrapping paper, scrapbooking paper, tissue paper, etcl covered in clear contact paper is great....also wallpaper works really well and there are thousands of designs on contact paper these days too! Sky is the limit really!!
I have used wrapping paper but yesterdays cake grease really showed on it. Fondant would be great but seems like that would be pricey. Is contact paper better for not getting greasy? Thanks so much for the suggestions!
I haven't tried it but I read somewhere of someone using peal and stick tiles (like from home depot) on their boards.
I buy my fondant to cover my cakes, but I make my fondant to cover my boards. See my last photo.
Sorry, i should have stated it that way too....homemade fondant is much cheaper to use for board covers. Also, I freeze any scraps I have and use them to cover when I have enough saved up.

Contact paper doesn't absorb the grease.
I cover my foam core boards with contact paper then fondant which I emboss or paint to complement the cake design.
I've often used vinyl pre-pasted wallpaper on top of the board, with ribbon edging on the side of the board to match/complement the cake.
My favourite is a swirly-textured white with a slight sheen - it subtly reflects the colour of the cake and looks amazing.
Sorry, meant to add...
I buy the wallpaper at paint/wallpaper warehouses - you can usually find some end-of-design rolls really cheaply. Mine cost about $5.00 and has lasted 3 years, still plenty left!
you could also buy those plastic table covers for a $1, and get lots of board coverage from them because they are so big. another bonus is, they are washable, so you could reuse them for different boards. Just a caution, your cake will slide, so ( as i did not ) I would use icing or non slip mat under the cake to glue the cake to the surface. to get it to stick to the board, I just used staples--worked like a charm!
Thanks for the other really cool ideas!!!!!
see penguine cake for reference.

I really like wrapping paper (great finds at the dollar store) covered with clear contact paper. Works great.
some people use large ceramic tiles which I want to try..
I cover my boards in fondant (rolled thin) or you can cover it in RI which would be pretty cheap too..
Where do you get contact paper?
walmart in the house good isle by the ironing boards, etc...

Oh you need to use food safe contact paper if you are using wrapping paper. The dye in wrapping paper is not food safe.

You can use fondant, royal icing fabrics and scrap book paper even gift wrap paper. I buy gift wrap paper and ribbons from the dollar store and cover them with food safe contact paper so the cake is not in direct contact with the paper of fabric.
Here is a cake board I covered tonight for a cake that I will be doing in the morning.
I just did one of my DH b'day this weekend and i used a rectangular foam which I covered on the outside edges with ribbon, then I placed a cakeboard and glued it to the foam and on top of that I placed my cake, it turned out really nice, I was impressed. I often use the cake drums and cover them with fondant but I wanted to do something different this time and it worked out great.
