tell me i didnt ruin it. i'm trying to rush because i'm cooking at the same time and i wanted to get a few things done before the baby woke up so i'm trying NFSC for the 1st time and thinking i'm saving time i saw that i needed to combine all the dry ingredients so i included the sugar in that, i skipped ahead instead of reading that the 1st line said to cream butter and sugar together. so anyway the sugar is in with the flour and i just mixed it that way. is it ruined? i'm the only one who would probably fail at no fail sugar cookies icon_sad.gif.

eek..........I don't know........I've always been told that the creaming of the butter and sugar is the MOST important step in any cookie and that you shouldn't skimp on the time that you spend doing that ONE step........guess that doesn't make you feel any better huh?? Sorry......but I think it has more to do with the texture of the cookie than anything......so maybe they'll stilll taste good..not sure, but I'll give you a bump anyhow!

I am about to make sugar cookies too and want to try this recipe so I can't help you but I do know it is important to mix the butter and sugar. but hopefully someone will asnwer my question why does this recipe say to preheat the oven for 1/2 an hour that's a long time. Will it matter if I don't preheat the oven that long I usually bake and when my oven tells me it is preheated. Can I still do that or do you think I will ruin the recipe?

Alton Brown says this as well. I can't fully recall, but I think it's something about when the oven reaches it's set temp, it's still not fully heated, so when you open the oven door, it loses a lot of heat...(um...it was on good eats last week, I think) so you want to make sure that the oven is fully heated before you bake so you don't lose as much by opening the door...?? I'm sure that didn't make much sense. Anyway, I don't think you'll ruin your cookies, but really, 30 min is not so long if you turn the oven on before you start doing anything, especially if you use the "roll between parchment/waxed paper then chill" method. By the time your cookies go in the oven, it will probably have been 1/2 hr! (as was in my case, anyway!)

hth...good luck!
