Ace Of Cakes, Did You Watched??

I was just thinking I should try to do that and post them, but I'm not very tech-savvy. When my hubby gets home I'll have him help me and I'll post them then! (Hopefully!)
I loved the show last night. The engine cake was so cool. I loved that Duff was actually showing some how-to's. I also thought he was great with the Brownies. I thought his comment about working there was funny. I like it when people aren't afraid to be politically correct.
Last night's episode was probably my favorite so far.
I LOVED how excited Duff got when his engine cake "blew up." You can tell how much he loves what he does!
And thank you Mary Alice for taking the time to respond to everyone here on CakeCentral! You guys ROCK!
did anyone catch the "nose game" at very start of show...looser had the royal pain of making the royal icing! funny! and so in keeping w/ the kid-like atmosphere of his shop.
re: habitat cake -- give the guy a break -- did you note: a) doing in, i beleive, his brother's home kitchen? and b) doing it as a time-out from leno cake.... so lets see two, maybe three hours, and none of your regular tools, etc. and still turn out a nice cake. PUHLEEZZ!!!!!! sounds like the "The Music Man" Pick-a-Little squad is in overdrive on this one.
re: wood/pvc not being cake --- well that was the cake STAND folks. and the speical effects.... so before going all Pick-a-Little crazy on the guy -- just remember we TOO use plastic and ceramic and wood and who knows what all else to hold up our cakes as well -- those monster tall creations don't exactly hold themselves up without some none edible support -- just think of all those towering wedding cakes on pillars and on-stress supports w/ fountains, etc!!
re: credit due -- don't pick-a-little unless you know ALL the facts. -- on this show we do see how is staff makes him look good. as for leno show--well since none have seen so it seems, can't judge.
re: filling -- so, what's the problem? duff's customer's know what they're getting and what they ordered. who are we to pick-a-little about THEIR choice, after all we are here to serve the customer (just not cut the cake!)
re: Brownies -- well not if that isn't just a testament to his wonderful personality. As ANY teacher here can tell you, it takes a special patience and personality to deal w/ that many children in such a patient, calm, caring manner.
i will agree that his chocolate for the wood graining was a flop...but then...you noted even they agreeded with that and talked about how experimentation is also a part of the game -- win some/lose some.
and this show is a winner.
(and just to keep "The Music Man" theme going...we strike up w/ "Good night, ladies. Good night ladies......")
toristreats--I have been sitting here for an hour trying to attach the pics I took of my practice roses, or at least get them into my photos, but as I said before, I'm not very good at this stuff I can't figure out how to get my pics down to the allowed size!!! Anyway, sorry I can't help with some pics. If you saw the show, I did it exactly how he did it and it was super simple! Wish I could be more help!!

...just an opinion...
(I'm editing this because it's not quoting properly...)

Don't worry about it. I saw the show, I just was interested in a closer look at the flowers. Thanks for trying.
I absolutely love the show!!!I love Duffs attitude and I especially love that he is a fellow Jew. Oh ya and has cakes are amazing!
I love Duff. Mary Alice is totally awesome too, I remember the first time I saw the show, I said to DH, "Hey, her and I have emailed!" LOL Thank you SOOO much for that info on the color spray! I was wondering and was thinking about shooting out an email. I love how Charm City is a member of CC now!
The crabs were fondant. I usually watch the shows twice because I have to tape it for DH cause he thinks the cakes are so cool!
This last show inspired me to make a fun cake (cheese & mice - in my photos) for free for a girl being transferred at work. I just wanted to do something FUN!
My boss reminds me off Duff. Same carefree attitude, but all business when he needs to be. I imagine if she shaved his head and grew the goatee (and aged about 10 years or so - he's only 19 lol), he'd look just like Duff! We also play the "nose game" at work...when it comes to answering the phone, the oven, you name it...!
PS- Mary Alice - was that real newspaper used on the board for the crab cake? Was it covered with anything or just as is? It looked fantastic!
This is my first time posting. My name is Mary, and I am one of "The Girls" on the show. Anyways, I just wanted to help clarify on how to make the roses, of "fun roses" as we like to call them.
1. Make a pretty fondant color
2. Cut out 3 circles
3. Wet the edges of the circles and place them in a line, slightly overlapping.
4. With your paintbrush, run a water line down the line of circles.
5. Take the bottom circle and start rolling towards the front of the line.
6. Pinch the middle of the roll and slightly twist the two halves apart, and you end up with two roses.
I have also made very small ones, replicas of ribbon roses, and you do the same thing, but just roll out the fondant much thinner.
I hope this helps!

Welcome Mary!
Thanks for the instructions on the fondant roses...now I'll have to try them! They looked very cute on tv.

Welcome to CC Mary!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Can't wait to give them a try!!
Hugs, ~Denise
Well, now I feel silly. I was so worried about one rose that when I was pinching off the fondant, I was throwing the other part way! (I did think there was alot of fondant left!) Thanks so much Mary, for letting me know I can get 2 roses out of that!
Welcoms and thanks for the instructions, Mary!
You guys seem to have so much fun at work!
I also loved the show. I rarely use fondant because it's "pricey" and feel like I'm throwing money away because most people don't eat it.

and that is why some talented person somewhere (thank you, thank you) invented MMF!!!
Doug you changed your avatar...almost didnt recognize you! I like it!
I get so giddy when someone from Charm City Cakes posts on Cake central...Its almost like I have met a celebrity....
OH WOW...Don't you just love when people who have reached "celebrity" status are still down to earth, and helpful?!
Makes me wonder how many of the other "preppy celebrities" would be generous enough to give their audience helpful info like that?!
OMG Doug, I love the avatar! I remember seeing the chimney sketch...and I remember the cute sketch on the right too. That's cool!
oh those look great, i stink at the ribbon roses so those are really nice and it looked so simple.
doug i really liked your old avatar . but this one is cute also .
Thanks to the girls from CCC (charm city cakes) for responding. It must be so much fun working with Duff. he's funny.
Yay! Getting info from "insiders" of the show makes me giddy! I love Duff and everyone else at Charm City Cakes....thanks so much for you info!
I love love love the show! I have my DVR set to record everyone of them. It is exciting to see cake decorating highlighted on food network. I have felt for a long time that it was an ignored talent of the culinary world. Now they have realized people love this stuff!!
The show just keeps getting better! I love it and my husband watches it with me (shocker). I love how they show things messing up and everything not being perfect all the time. Thanks to the Charm City Girls for the info! You rock!
