I am trying to get a portfolio together to showcase my work.
I am moving to another part of the state and am going to try to get on with a bakery instead of seeking out the same type of job I have now.
My question is what kind of book would one use to show pictures of cakes? And how big do the pictures need to be? Like 8x10? Should the book itself be decorated or straight-forward and professional?
TIA!
Cheers,
Darci
I started my portfolio using a 2" binder with the clear inserts in the front. I printed my cake photos on 8 1/2" x 11 paper and placed them in the clear sheet protectors inside the binder. Because it was a relatively inexpensive way, I've actually created several for potential clients.
I made my portfolio as a scrapbook. I used a 12"x12" book and there was lots of room to show the pictures as well as information regarding each cake (price, sizes available).
I'm a big scrapbooker, so I let it run over into my cake obsession!
Go into an art shop and have a look at what they've got - I like the thick black card spiral bound books which look very classy.
I, too, use a 2" binder, but I made scrapbook pages, on 8½ X 11 construction paper, separated the pics into categories: birthdays, christmas, Easter, baby... and so on I made it to be attractive to the eyes! But I guess it's a matter of what you like and it'll be put. This one was made to show to customers, from my business.
i have a small picture book. 1 pic. per page. bakeries really just look at your work. what level your skill is! usually if you apply at a bakery(not grocery store) they will have you ice and decorate a cake also.
good luck to you~ happy decorating!
