My friend has asked me to do a wedding cake for her. She is having a 70's themed reception & would like a fun, possibly sculpted cake. Her & her fiance have 2 sons so I was thinking of 2 VW vans with 2 VW bugs behind them.
Any ideas or thoughts??
Yes, that would be cool! Would you use the VW bug pan? How would you do the vans, with a loaf pan?
I'd suggest adding a little sign on the back of the vans saying "Just married". Maybe make some tin cans to follow behind the vans and bugs. I think those were popular then.
Actually Flower Power is from the 60s along with the summer of love in 1967. As were the VW vans.
The scenic airbrush painted Vans were from the 70s. And The 70s was the beginning of the disco era, platform shoes, Gunne Sax dresses by Jessica McClintock, Angel Flights pants, or bell bottom jeans for guys, lots of prints in fabric and the popular colors were Avocado Green, orange and yellow. Hairpieces called Falls and Wiglets for the women, long sideburns and mustaches for the guys. The Vietnam war was winding down. Watergate was in 1973, Nixon resigned in 1974. Popular television shows were "That was the week that was" "Saturday Night Live"
Wedding cakes were still mainly white, but color in pastel was coming in to match the wedding colors. Large Doves and plastic beaded hearts were popular cake toppers. The little cartoon "Love Is" was very popular and infact would make a really cute wedding topper for the cake you are planning.
