So your time is more valuable than mine? You're too important to search CC (or epicurious or recipesource or marthastewart) yourself, and I should? That's some sense of privilege, KWIM.

What kills me are the incessant requests for "a good recipe for X cake." I'm going to read that and decide that Oh! She wants a good recipe for X cake! Guess the lousy recipe I already posted won't work for her, so I'll post the <i.good one this time.

Well said.

Great idea !! I didn't know this feature existed either. I'll start checking it daily if I can.

Great Suggestion.

I'd be happy to try to answer some unanswered posts if I am able to. Many times I don't know the answer.

I don't think that sarcasm is the way to keep things friendly.... icon_smile.gif Hey, we are all here to get help from this site. The great thing about this site is that there are people who don't mind answering posts that others don't feel like answering. Looking at the member list there are over 53,000 members of Cakecentral. If you then look at the rankings you can see that there that 51,060 have posted less than 20 posts. That means that 96% of member don't really post at all. Kind of sounds weird for how busy the forums always are. If you see a post you don't want to answer, than I say you have every right to not answer. This thread is to call out to the people that want to answer those questions that go un-answered...not to criticism the people who post them.

WOW!!! Some individuals are definitely "hot under the collar" on this thread. I will say that I am a newbie and that often times I do just type in my question and hope that some has an answer. I do not know about ya'll, but I did not realize that people are here to just sit and help us newbies. I thought that this was a leisure website and if someone who happened to be on as the person that needed help was on - they could answer their question. I do not think that anyone is trying to hurt anyones feelings or use up someone's time answering their questions.

I will make more of an effort to look and try to help others. Also, you may want to consider posting a thread that will stay at the beginning of each forum and state = "Before opening a thread... please, try using the "search" techinque to see if this issue has been discussed before. If then, you do not get the answers you are looking for, please, feel free to open a thread. By this, it is allowing the supporters to be able to answers as many questions as they can, without having to repeat answers they have already given out... JUST AN IDEA

Also, how you do "bump" a question???

I am sorry for those that seemed frustrated, but know that everyone's time, advice, and efforts are appreciated.

Well, if everyone just played nice and respected everyone's opinion that have been tactfully stated the moderators wouldn't have to lock threads. icon_wink.gif

This is just TOO funny! I'm sorry if that's happened to you MaiseBaker! but you are correct! If people just took the time to do a search, I mean, the owners of the site have put into place terrific features and have done a "BANG UP JOB". To me, it would be like a "slap" in the face...Like why bother doing all that work when no one is going to use it or appreciate it!

I know that before I posted a question asking for a "doctored carrot cake" I used the search function, when I didn't find what I was looking for, I posted my request in the recipe forum.

not trying to discourage people, but there would be a lot less "stuff" to wade through if people just took a minute to use the search feature. I'm sure it would take almost the SAME ammount of time to do a "SEARCH" for an answer as it would to "POST".

sorry, but that is just me and right or wrong, just one person's opinion!! thumbs_up.gif

I know CC is working on articles that incorporate some of the repeated questions that come through the forums. But I love the idea of the "Everything you wanted to know about __________" topic in the meantime (like the buttercream one). It would not be just a how to, but we could share our suggestions and experiences on just that one topic. Like FBCT, MMF, cake mixes, royal icing, etc.

Sometimes the search function yields soooooo many hits, that I just give up! Like I knew there was a post about cake balls recently, but when I did a search later, I gave up finding that particular one I remember reading.( I forgot to save it to my watched topics).

also.... I think we shouldn't ignor or make anyone feel badly for any question! There's always room for growth and just because something has been answered on another post, doesn't mean there's no room for a new creative perspective on a technique. JMO.

Aww, yes, there is room for everyone! and really, there are no silly questions...

But, when someone feels that they don't have to look for answers and just....reask..that's a bit un-nerving at times!

I always enjoy sharing what I know, and if I can help anyone I try.

But, the one question that I got tired of answering and won' t for a while is the pricing one..lol

I'm a bit burnt out on that one! lol

But, yes, I do agree that sometimes there is just TOO much info on the search option, but that is EXACTLY what I mean. New threads on old subjects!!!

I know that Jackie is working on making things more "cohesive" but, Cake Central is a priviledge not a right and we ALL must do our part.

Ok, enough about this...I'm moving on!! lol

Take care!!!!

I know I check unanswered posts alot......yesterday as a matter of fact. If I do not know the answer I will give them a bump so it will come up on the home page and maybe someone else will know the answer!! I don't bump people if I know the answer..... I simply answer it! icon_cool.gif

I think we actually are agreeing to the same thing here. Because of the same information posted in soooooo many different threads, the search option isn't a whole lot of help sometimes.

No, I don't think that my time is any more valuable than anyone else's, but sometimes a person doesn't have 5 hours to wade through pages, and pages, and pages of search results to find an answer that someone can offer in minutes.

Duplicate posts annoy me too. However, I realixe that some of these posts are by CC "newbies" and they may not have the internet message board knowledge that others have and don't even realize there is a SEARCH option.

I think we have went wayyyyyyyy off the subject.. If a newbie is reading this, Or someone who just dont know about all the "search" buttons..
PLEASE dont feel alarmed and feel like " oh no, that was me" icon_surprised.gif .. Or " man I need an answer like in 10 mins, I dont have time to seach".. icon_eek.gif Post what you please.. And yes, I try to check the unanswered forum too.. thumbs_up.gif

I believe you are going to find this problem any place you go to be it here or recipesource or anyother forum of sorts. What it amounts to is the simple fact that most people pay little attention to the search feature in any forum they are looking for a quick answer and simply do not want to spend the time searching for it. I realize repeated questions get cumbersome and often times down right boring because you know that same question has been ask a 1000 times before. One way I believe this can be reduced some if someone was designated as official greeter for CC. Have someone greet new members in the welcome area and explain how to use the features and other things here.
Just a thought.

I find it incredibley rude to come on here and Complain about what people are posting. And unfair to make the newbies think they can't post their questions because Somewhere on the site, if they dig hard enough, they will find their answer. If you don't like the subject matter don't look at the post.

I am very computer literate and know my way around this site. But sometimes I am looking for FRESH answers. Perhaps a response from someone who never say the first post. And sometimes I search when I have the time to poke around (which is most of the time). But if I am hoping for a quick response I will Absolutely post a question that I know has already been answered.

JMO.
