I baked a cake for a group picnic (red hat society) that was I was told was to be used as a door prize. Anyway, I spent a lot of time and money preparing it but it ended up being used as another dessert. My take on this was that the organizers thought it wasn't good enough to be used as a prize although I had many many compliments on it. My DH says that they probably wanted to taste it and I should be pleased. I want to believe him but you know how it goes..the little voice in my head says that he's just trying to put a positive spin on it. What would you think if this happened to you?

Honestly....I would have to go with my gut feeling.

I wouldn't spend one teeny tiny second wondering about it....I'd either forget it and never do another cake for them...or I'd confront them.

You were told it would be used for a prize and it should have been.

Beautiful cake, btw!

Its such a pretty cake! Maybe someone got their wires crossed . . . it could have been that one person asked to use it for a door prize while another didn't know about it. I'd ask though . . . it never hurts to clear the air!

Your cake did turn out beautiful!! Great job!!

Were there other door prizes? It could be something simple - like they had more people than they expected and didn't have enough desserts, they had more door prizes than they thought they would, or like your DH said, they wanted to cut it to see how it tasted, or to let everyone share it because it was so neat.

It wouldn't hurt to ask someone. It was an amazing cake. I just do not believe they didn't think it was good enough for a door prize!! Maybe just the opposite - it was too good!

I can't imagine anyone thinking that the cake wasn't good enough for a door prize. It's awesome.

Your cake is lovely. I'm wondering if they decided against having as a prize because it's a lot of cake for one person. Let's face it, many of them are in their 70's and 80's. They probably don't have a house full of kids! But I would have been upset if they did not do as planned and I went to all that trouble and expense.

Your cake was beautiful!! I don't think she thought it wasn't good enough for a door prize. Like someone else said maybe it looked too good to her and she just had to have a piece. You should ask if you really want to ease your mind.

The cake is gorgeous and perfect! There's no way anyone would think that it wasn't "good enough" for a door prize.

Were you at the event to see what happened?

If you weren't....

Perhaps someone DID win it as a door prize and decided to share immediately?

Don't let it get you down. I agree with mmdd, you could ask what happened or just forget about it and don't worry about donating a prize to them again.

The cake is wonderful!

Thanks for boosting my confidence. You're right I should ask what happened. BTW the other door prizes were just small flower arrangements that were on the picnic tables.

well, in a way it's a compliment...

it went from being "mine -- all mine" to

"ours--all ours!"

cakerlady, that's a beautiful cake! Definitely good enough for a door prize!! thumbs_up.gif I know how you feel though - I was asked to donate a 1/2 sheet for dessert for a benefit. Instead they brought out a costco sheet cake and put mine in the kitchen. I stayed until the end of the benefit, even hellped clean up and it was never brought out or served. To this day I don't know what happened to that cake. Sometimes I wonder what people think - we put alot of ourselves in our cakes...Just think of all the compliments you got on it!! It's a beautiful cake - LOVE the butterfly!

Your cake is BEAUTIFUL!
After hearing the other prizes were small floral arrangements I'll bet somebody did get mixed up!
As it always goes only we who make the cakes know how much hard work and effort go into them. Okay maybe us AND our families!
Just know that you did a wonderful job!

It's gorgeous! I suspect that someone wanted it for herself! But, I'd ask, simply because I'm curious!

Looking at this cake.....I have NO DOUBT that they just wanted to cut into it and share it because it was so neat! REALLY! I actually had this exact same thing happen to me! I was asked to make a cake as a door prize for our local boosters club banquet and they ended up eating it! When the organizer told me....she said that so many people were interested in it they took a vote over the loud speaker and everyone cheered to cut it up and serve it! They LOVED IT! I'm convinced this is what happened with your cake because it's absolutely gorgeous and I'm sure they had never seen anything like it before! TAKE IT AS A COMPLIMENT!

There is nothing wrong with your cake. Knowing how some of those groups do things, wires got crossed. Some of them can't remember what they said or did. Just the nature of the beast on that group. Have dealt with several chapters, they are sweet, but forgetful.

That cake would have brought big dollars at a silent auction. It was Awesome. When people do fundraisers and such things get mixed up. I recently donated 2 cakes and a candle that I also sell. I was told how much the candle went for. But not how much the cakes went for icon_surprised.gif But when I took the cakes in for the fundraiser the gal I dropped them off to said wow cake we will eat good today. So I think they used my cakes as a dessert. But I had given them some business cards. So my name got out there that is all that counts. Your cake was beautiful DON"T PUT YOURSELF DOWN!!!! thumbs_up.gif Chin up icon_biggrin.gif
