Cookie tutorial needed - HELP!

Desperate for something I can contribute to a last minute wedding for my brother - cookies seems like the perfect answer because I can make them and take them with me on the plane next weekend.

BUT - I have NO idea what I'm doing!!!!!!! icon_surprised.gif I'll pick up a wedding cake cookie cutter, but then what? I'm really pressed for time - what's a great, quick, foolproof cookie recipe? Or should I use a prepared dough?

Then on to decorating... Royal icing? How do you keep the decoration "inside the lines?" Do you outline then fill in? What consistency? How far in advance can I make them? Will they freeze well? The good news is there will only be about 20 people in attendance. Any and all advice is GREATLY appreciated!!

Hi! I have used the Wilton's rolled out cookie dough recipe and it works good. I think an easy way for you to decorated them would be to get some Wilton ice-a-cookie. It dries hard and they would travel easily. The directions are on the package. You can buy it from Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Good luck! icon_wink.gif

You could also do thin color flow icing...and maybe monogram them?

Thanks guys! I'll help any way I can. There is a step-by-step decorated cookie photo tutorial at www.kitchengifts.com which I recommend. It is really easy to follow and there are fool-proof recipes there too.

Just let them dry solid before you attempt to package them, or you'll ruin your work. If you want to get a head start, make the cookies in Gingerbread and you can ice them NOW.) Gingerbread generally has less butter content than a sugar cookie...so it won't go rancid as fast. They will literally be good for a month wrapped.

Whatever you do, don't keep them in the fridge or freezer...the icing doesn't like it! A nice cool room out of direct sunlight is perfect.

Good luck! icon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gif
