Need cake Idea -

Hi! I'm traveling to Maryland for July 4th to visit my family and since I have just finished Wilton's Course I, and sent everyone pictures, they all told me to bring my stuff so I can make a birthday cake for my Granny!

But I need ideas. I've thought of transferring a pattern of fireworks onto the cake (it'll be a 9X13 cake)...and bordering it with red and blue stars (or shells - but my shells need practice)...

any other ideas????????

You could border it with the stars or just a zigzag using tip 21 and on the top have a spray of red, white and blue roses.....then it's patriotic, but also looks like a birthday cake for Granny.

thank you! I might try it, but my roses need some work. My first attempt at roses wasn't too bad...but it definitely could have been better icon_biggrin.gif

I think you should do a cake for Granny far, far away from the July 4th theme that you can go.

Having a Dad w/ a bday close to Christmas, A Mom w/ a bday close to Valentine's Day I never do cakes for them w/ those themes. My Dad has always gotten cheated w/ cakes w/ Christmas theme OR even gifts wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper. Mom is the same way! So I do something special for them far away from their bday theme's & holidays!

I would just see what Granny likes. What's her favorite color. Go from there~ Good luck~~

The only thing is that Granny's birthday was actually June 24. She knows I'm making a cake and she wants it to be Independence Day themed, because the party we are attending actually is for Independence Day. Thanks for your opinion though!

Jamie - the drop flowers using the 2D tip make a nice boarder. You could use red, white and blue flowers and then the fireworks as you mentioned. Also, if you didn't want to make the fireworks, you could use the 2D tip and make drop flowers all over the cake. This turns out to be very pretty and you won't have to take a ton of tips with you on your trip.

Thank you! I have thought of doing the drop flowers. Is it best to make them the night before and freeze them, then apply them to the cake? Since you have to turn the bag, I don't want to mess up the smoothness of the frosting...
