Kids can get so funny about that, mine know that stuff isn't cake but I'm supposed to make all kinds of things into cakes and cookies. My youngest has words such as fondant and gum paste in his vocabulary and my oldest can go through and tell you what pans they used in the yearbooks and sometimes he can tell how something is done. icon_lol.gif

You know you are a cake decorator when...

you head to the bakery "just to see what they are doing with the cakes".

I find myself doing this every time I go to Wally-world, Brookshires, Albertson's...

I CAN'T STOP MYSELF!!!

...when you are half paying attention to the TV, and a music/instrument shop commercial comes on, and you perk up thinking how realistic that guitar cake looks. Then you realize it's a guitar. icon_redface.gif

lol, every time I go to the grocery store by myself, I skirt past the bakery just so I can see what they've got and how much they're charging for things. I always go into the baking isle and see if there's anything I could have missed before such as extracts and such. I like to see what they're making into mixes too for flavor ideas icon_rolleyes.gif

when you look for new toys, new techniques...or when you "just look real quick" at 2:30 am at your favorite cake forum after a long nite of baking~decorating!

When you start wondering if you can use gel colors and lusterdust as eyeshadow?

My DD(2) is silly about things, too. She got a frisbee, a ball, and a toy cup. Stacked them on top of each other and told me "Hot! 5 minutes!" and was pointing to the bookshelf cubby where they were "cooking", then she brought it to me and announced proudly, "CAKE, MOMMY! DID IT BYSELF!"

...when you spend hours and hours online at cc!
...when you get rid of pots, pans and tupperware to make room for cake stuff in the cupboard!

I ALWAYS go through the baking and cake supply aisle at every store...and look through the bakery, too.....thinking I can do that.....

Oh! And when you have to stay up until noon for your customer to pick up the cake you worked on all night! icon_smile.gif

...when you watch a movie and think about how that fabric would make a pretty cake.

...when you are at work and spend most of your time on CC.

...when your "personal drawer" at work is filled with post it notes that have cake sketches on them.

...when every conversation with anyone always turns into talking about cake.

...when your husband actually know what cake tools are such as flower nail, luster dust, etc.

...when your husband is giving you suggestions on ideas for a cake... "Yeah we could make the coins out of white chocolate and dust them gold..."

...when your father calls you up a couple times a week with new ideas of what he would like to see in cake form.

People make fun of me because of my "themes" that I like to dream up for for birthdays, especially my daughters. Well, one day I heard my daughter (she was 5 then, now 7) discussing her friends birthday pary and she asked her very seriously "OH, what is your theme". I knew then I deserved everything I was getting.

when you start to realize that even though you don't have kids, all of your friends invite you to their kids bday parties, and you are usually the only other adult there!!!

I finally told them I can do a cake for you, that doesn't mean you have to invite me to the party! Too many six year olds can be very overwhelming to a childless gal like me!!

When a potential customer turns you down because your cake is too expensive ($45 for a 12 x 18 - is that so over the top?). She wanted some exotic flavor, but when she got my price, she said she would check with Wal-Mart. More power to her.

$45.00 for a 12 X 18 is NOT too much...in fact, it's not enough. Especially for an exotic flavor.

you install a lock on the den door so you will have a safe place to leave your creations over night.

My four year old dd woke me very early one morning saying, "mommy where did you put that cake, I looked and looked but I can't find it."

I knew she had gone to bed much too easily that night. She was planning to attack at the break of dawn, but I foiled her. ( mean mommy laugh...hehehe)

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this one or not but came up with this one while I was making my breakfast.
You know you are a cake decorator when...you are putting cream cheese on your english muffin and you try to make it as smooth as possible.
