I have had two opportunities fall into my lap and had to share with people who would understand.
The first is someone at my job (Vet Hosp) wants to start a doggy bakery with me. We already have a "in" with the clientelle this kind of shop would cater to. The vet has agreed to help us by putting a basket of free samples in the waiting room with a brochure listing our items and prices. And my partner is the receptionist so she can give all the free advertizing we can handle!
Anyone else try this? Anything we need to avoid? I have a call into the Dept of Arg. to see if we would need to be inspected since it is not for human consumption.
The other is I called our local university and ask about teaching a class. He offered me $25.00 per hour over the phone. I about died. I can make up my own schedule and offer it to him in two weeks with my proposal. He hopes to have it on the January schedule!!!
I had a dog cookie biz for a few years when I lived in NJ. You (may) need a feed license and may need to have the baking facility inspected. Make sure you get a letter from your vet stating that the cookies are OK for canine consumption as this is something that realyy helps with sales. Best of Luck!
If you don't mind my asking- Can this be profitable? What was your biggest seller-bones/cakes?
Congrats NEW!!!! I know you have got to be totally psyched- I sure would be! Not that I'm a cat person, but will you be offering cat goodies too? Here's one of my favorite dog-goodie sites to look at:www.threedogbakery.com
The class sounds like a great opportunity too. WOW! Will it be a cake decorating class? Make sure that $25/hr will work out better than charging per student. Not sure if your pay is negotiable in that way, but it is something to consider. Good luck, you'll do great!!

It can be profitable if you do arts and craft shows. I didnt do well in stores or via the internet, but I did OK at shows. I never sold but one cake, but cookies did well during the winter months.
