Moving To Charleston, Sc And Starting Over....maybe!
Business By acookieobsession Updated 13 Sep 2006 , 2:13am by anesha
I am sooo bummed! I have a had a tremendous year with cookies and recently cakes! I am so thankful for that. Now my DH has been promoted (yeah!) and we are moving to the beach (Double Yeah!). The kids are happy and so am I but....SC has the same rules as MAryland (commercial kitchen, not at home, etc). So before I started here I had "friends and Family" business. Now I am going to have to start over because most of my business is word of mouth here.... I am going to close down my site at the end of October and take some time to get to know the area.
I am feeling sad though about closing down the business commercially. i feel like I have built something just for me (I am a SAHM). My husband is glad I know so that he gets time back, and I am sure I will get used to it again. But there is just this feeling of loss...
Does this make sense? Thanks for listening....
It does make sense. While you're "giving up" what you have there, you're also starting new somewhere else where you can wow a brand new set of people! I think you will be great!
Let us know how it goes- start to finish. I'm thinking hard about moving back to the east coast next year and I would really like to hear about your experiences.
Hey, cookie, hate that you are sad. I seem to find myself in " bittersweet situations all the time.
Just remember one thing, Itsssssss the beachchchchchchchchchchchchchchchchchchc!!!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in NC. About 3 1/2 hours from Myrtle Beach. This close, yet so far away.
Cookie-did you find a house yet? Maybe it's possible to do a little building project before you move (like converting a garage into a commercial kitchen) or buying a duplex?! It's a thought...You do beautiful work and you are moving for a reason. You will do fine no matter where you go!
Acookieobsession, sorry to hear you are having to leave family and friends but I bet you will do great in SC. On behalf of SC, I welcome you! Like Crystalscakes5 said, it's the beach!!!! Great place to be!
Hi Cookie.. Congrats on getting to be so close to the beach. Just remember that God NEVER closes one door that He doest OPEN another one. Good luck and enjoy your new life.
I am envious! If you like anything "South" you will LOVE Charleston. Its a great city full of gracious people.
Ohhhh boy am I jealous of your new location! We vacationed in Kiawa Island last year and spent some time in Charleston. To say that I LOVED the area would be an understatement (even without the big fancy beach houses!) I loved the city!
Maybe instead of shutting down your site you could switch it over to a "coming soon" for the Charleston area thing. That way if you get any hits you might be getting some name recognition even before your up and running again.
Good luck!
Awww, thanks for the encouragement. You guys are great!
We have found a house (if my DH doesn't talk us out of it), but we can not build on it.
I just keep telling myself, it is the BEACH! WHo wants to slave over a cookie all day (me ). My kids would probably mutiny if I kept them in all the time. MY DH is down there now and he says they are still swimming in the pool! Swimming? ? We are wearing jeans and long sleeves in western MD now!
I think I will try to just do it for friends I know from here and start bringing my cookies and cakes to every event I can like I did here. i am sure that I can build it up, I was just ready to hire a helper here! So now it is back to all me!
Yjudania, thanks for the welcome. I am grew up in Ga so I am ready to get back down south where they have sweet tea and the folks talk right! Just kidding....no offense meant of course!
Thanks again, you guys are great.
I think that this might be a great opportunity for you. You never know you might be able to find a space that is farely inexpensive and maybe Cookie can have her very own cake and cookie boutique. Everything happens for a reason. You will not be failed.
