I'll be going. I'm entering the divisional and wedding cake competition. I really hope I do SOMETHING that the judges will like with my wedding cake.

Some of us will be wearing fancy, new chef coats so that maybe The Food Network will think we're important enough to tape and then pay more attention to our cakes. icon_cool.gif

Just a note, even if it's your first time take something. You'll get a ticket for each entry and some of the prizes are really great! Believe me, there will be plenty of people who are first-timers and worried about their work. The veterans are just as worried, if not more. When we see the work of new people we sometimes think "Oh crud, this person is going to be in my division soon!

I'm from Michigan and a newcomer. Just wanted to know if anyone knows of competitions here in Michigan. I'd love to go to one but Oklahoma is just too far for me right now. Even Illinois, Indiana or Ohio would be a lot closer. Any info? Thanks for any responses. Regards, P.T.

I am very new to decortating but my husband encourages me to go ahead and enter since I will be going and I am! I am entering in the holiday category and in the peitit four competition. I don't expect anything miraculous, lol, just going for fun. Also, I got all these great ingredients to experiment with for the petit fours (provived by the companies) that I wouldn't have tried if it were not for this competition! So enter enter enter!

I think it's sure worth the trip for anyone who can make it. We have folks come from Michigan, Virginia, California, Canada, and beyond to enter the National Wedding Cake Competition. And it's tons more fun if you bring at least one entry. You get free cake toys just for entering, plus a free gate pass so you don't have to pay admission, and it just makes it more fun when you have a personal stake in it. I'm helping judge some of the regular show entries this year and can't wait to see all the great stuff everyone brings! Oh yes, and I know who the competitors are for the Groom's cake FoodTV thing -- shouldn't say who, but there's a couple cake celebrities you all know and you won't want to miss it!!

The deadline for entry is September 22. This is due to having to get the tables necessary for the entrants (especially the wedding cake competition) and for people to get their paperwork and fair tickets in the mail. They will accept entries after that date, but those people will have to pay their way into the fair ($7.00?). According to the rules, this year, there will be no on-site registration. It's just getting too large for that luxury.

Arrive early. Traffic will be brutal, parking will be worse. You will have only twenty minutes to unload and then find a place to park. If you get there early enough, you can park fairly close, free. For the most part, they are fairly strict about people getting their entries in by 10 a.m.

Yea! I'm going for my first time this year. But, I can't go until Sunday. Anyone that's ever been...do the cakes remain on display the whole time or can the entrants remove them at their own discretion? I'm so excited...I'm not entering this year because I barely have enough time to practice once or twice a month these days, but maybe next year. Good luck to those who are entering. I didn't realize there were so many fellow Oklahomans on CC.

They keep the cakes until after the awards on Sunday evening. They are on display from 4:00 Friday when we can bring them in until the close of the show on Sunday.
