welcome to the forums! I can't help you but I am giving you a bump so hopefully someone else can. Sounds like a great idea for a cake.

well if no responses come on your post, then it falls of the home page of cake central....a bump is when someone posts so that others will still have time to see it (does that make any sense at all)!?!

If the shield is complex I would think your best bet would be a frozen buttercream transfer (FBCT) to make the sheild. If you have never done one of these you can find the directions on this site int the articles section here:

http://www.cakecentral.com/article12-How-To-Create-a-Frozen-Buttercream-Transfer.html.

Do you have a 1/2 sheet cake pan? That would be the easist way to go. You can use any size really - depending on how many folks you are feeding. Just make your FBCT so it will fit nicely on the cake.

If you want to do an edible image you would need a pretty good photo of the badge. Sometimes your local bakery or supermarket can print it out for. You just need to call and ask around if anyone prints edible images.

Welcome to CC!

That's a really nice cake by Cambo and it sounds similar to what you want to do. I haven't done any like this myself so I am not much help. But possible a FBCT would work. An edible image would be nice to if you have a printer for that purpose or know someone who could print it for you.

I think there are more cakes with a police design in the galleries, under themed cakes and at the bottom there is a section for this.

Good luck with it and please let us know how it turns out!

I don't have an edible ink printer so I couldn't tell you anything helpful on that - but there is a tutorial for that on the home page. I would think, however, that you would not want to use regular ink to print it because it can't be safe to eat, right!!

That is why I always do all my pictures with royal icing. You do need a good outline though, so if your picture of the shield is pretty distorted you may not be able to trace it properly. Maybe you can go online and find an image of a NYPD badge and maybe do your own editing to show the right numbers and so forth. Then scan it at a higher resolution and then print it out the size you need it. Remember to print it in reverse order (so that it will not be backward when you place it on the cake).

That's the only advice I have for you right now. Sorry.
