Welcome to cake central. there is an encyclopedia of information posted in these threads. There is also a recipe section with lots of recipes.

I did a search in the recipe section using maple and frosting in the search criteria. Here is one that looks promising:

I usually add maple extract to my buttercream. I love maple icing on my spice cakes

Caramel Frosting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Description:
A Rich, Thick, Caramel Frosting--Great for Cakes or Cupcakes

Cooking Time:

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter or margarine (1 stick), softened
1 cup C&H Pure Cane Dark Brown Sugar, Packed
1/4 tsp. salt
2/3 cup milk
3 cups C&H Pure Cane Powdered Sugar

Instructions:
Melt butter in saucepan; stir in brown sugar and salt. Bring to a rolling boil and boil rapidly 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, stir in milk, then return to a rolling boil. Cool 20 minutes or until lukewarm. Beat in powdered sugar until smooth. Add more liquid if necessary if frosting is too stiff.

Serving Size: Makes enough for a two-layer cake

this is a recipe listed on www.chsugar.com under the recipe section. I have not tried it, just thought i would pass it on (they also have lots of others listed) it says caramel, but was wondering if the two are the same or very similar?

Martha Stewart has a maple swiss meringue butter cream recipe. Check her website if you'd like to try it.

what recipe do you use? I tried the wilton banana cake recipe this weekend...was very yummy, but came out like a bread rather than a cake.

It's actaully a recipe from my grandmothers friend. I've never tired to do it as a decorated cake, I will have to try it with the carmel frosting posted earlier. I'll call and get the recipe later on today!
