Here's a silly question, let's just hope you have a less than silly answer...

Can you substitute meringue powder with cream of tartar in your general royal icing recipe? We went out shopping today, found the cream of tartar super cheap, stocked up (me planning on making some royal icing tonight for cookies baked yesterday) and have now come home with no meringue powder to be found and three containers of creme de tartar. Bah! Assistance?!

Oh, blah... False alarm. I've decided to suck it up and just use the egg whites in place of the powder.

While I'm here, though, anybody have any good ideas for egg left-over yolks? ^_^;;

You can always use the yolks to make a rich custard!
