There is always, eventually someone that you cannot please--no matter how wonderful a job you do--which you did. The cake looks great! Just chalk it up to her being one of those people your mother always told you about!

After seeing your sketch and the picture of the completed cake, I am completely baffled as to what the bride expected! How could she have seen the sketch and not been just thrilled with the final outcome!

I suppose she could have been suffering from "wedding let-down". icon_wink.gif You know...
1. After all the planning, the day went by too quickly. (Like the 'holiday let-down' x 25!)

2. She spent way too much money. Seemed like a good idea at the time... after all it was her wedding!! And now she had just figured out how much she will have to pay to get all the photos she wants from the photographer. More money...more money and more money!

3. The guests weren't as awstruck as she thought they should be. She had no idea that half of them attended because of some sense of duty, the same reason they attended the other 10 weddings they were invited to this season.

4. She may have realized she has become a wife. You know...that person like your mom, who cooked, cleaned, did laundry and held down a full time job during the week and played the church organ on Sundays. (Now that is a transformation that could be a shocker!)

All joking aside, (I certainly don't mean to minimize the disappointment you must feel) it is likely you may not have been the only person providing a service for her wedding that took a hit. I think she is just being thoughtless and mean. You did an absolutely fantastic job on the cake. It is truly lovely. You deserve the pride you felt when you put the finishing touch on your cake and stepped away to admire it. That is yours. Don't let her take that away from you.

What a gorgeous masterpiece!!!! thumbs_up.gif She should be ashamed of herself icon_redface.gif Even if your cake didn't look anything like her dress (just making a point) the bride should have been overwhelmed to have such a beautiful cake.

No matter how hard we try and the extra lengths we take, some people are just never satisfied. Don't take it personal!! icon_wink.gif K'ly ^,,^

That cake is beautiful !!! thumbs_up.gif
Perfect in every way..
So what if it looked at lot like her gown ? that's what she wanted !.
But then again go figure. Maybe it's more beautiful than her gown.
Too beautiful that people were probably looking at the cake more than her gown.. that cake stole her thunder !!

It is very gorgeous, beautiful and elegant...very well made.
Good enough to be at Food Network in a challenge icon_smile.gificon_cool.gif I'm sure it taste
fabulous also. LOOKS + TASTE = PERFECT

It's a fabulous cake and don't let the bride's whining take away from the wonderful feeling you have from a job soo well done. It sounds to me like this bride took it personally, although why I can't imagine, that her guests didn't gush over HER because her brides cake (made by you) was so beautiful. It's always funny to me how people seem to do this. I love going to wedding receptions where the bride and groom make a point of mixing with their guests and letting them know that they are an important part of their special day. Much nicer than when it's ALL about the bride. Many times the parents are all but forgotten except for paying the bills. Oaky, that was alittle off subject but Ihad to say it.

Celebrity or not what did she think to accomplish by complaining other than making you feel bad? You do wonderful work! Don't let this hang on and get you down girl! Go on, create!!

Wow! The cake is amazing! She should have been thrilled that you made such an exquisite cake without a better phot from her. I'm getting married in May and have not been able to decide on a cake, now I want this one, I think it really is beautiful. I guess you can't please everybody. Sorry you had such a disappointing experience over such a lovely cake!

Ellen~
You must have run into one VERY picky bride, because your cake is beautiful! Without having seen the dress, I can still imagine what it looked like... your work is so precise and flawless. I'm stunned! All of your work is beautiful, and SO creative!!

You are living my dream, with a home kitchen in Ohio. Your website is awesome...did you hire someone to do this for you, or do you have a natural talent for websites also?? I wish that I could drive you into my city for the weekend to pick your brain! Do you ever make trips to the Country Kitchen headquarters in Fort Wayne, IN???? icon_smile.gif If so, lunch is on me, and I am NOT kidding!

Well done, and what a business- woman! I envy you! icon_smile.gif

With deepest regard, Lindsay

Thanks again....I am starting to emotionally distance myself from her disappointment in this cake. It's all on her.....I did what I thought she wanted, the cake looks like the sketch she agreed to, and if she doesn't like the result, I can't control her reaction to it. I think she'll look back on it and say to herself, "What was I thinking?" Here is my fantasy: I would love to try like the dickens to submit it to a wedding publication, just so I can call her up later on and say, "Hey, your wedding cake was published in such and such magazine." Nana nana boo-boo!!! icon_razz.gif Not that I have that much of an ego about it, but I sure would love it, just to prove to her that it was a wonderful wedding cake!!

By the way, Lindsay, thanks for the compliments on the website.....my husband is my resident web designer/graphic artist. He works as a web designer for his day job, so I lucked out...he knows how to do all the fancy stuff. In fact, he is overhauling it, and making it more trendy looking this week. HOpefully, he'll be done soon!
I am not much in Indiana, but you are always welcome to visit me in Ohio!! icon_smile.gif I love company!!

Your cake was spectacular .. if she didn't like it, she's blind hun.. don't fret ... you did a beautiful job and anyone with eyes in their head can see how stunningly beautiful your cake was ... with some people, it doesn't matter what you do, they'll never be happy .. you know why???? because they're not happy with themselves.. happiness comes from within .. she's a sad person is all I can say .. chin up... you did an awesome job!!

That cake is absolutely gorgeous!! What was the bride expecting - a "lifesize" dress cake?!? I do not understand how anyone could possibly be "disappointed" with your cake!!! It is truly amazing - I would be thrilled!!

[quote="She said that the cake was delicious and plentiful, and that it was pretty, just not what she wanted.[/quote]

Ellen, It is so difficult to hear the bride felt the way she did. But she did compliment you on the cake (as quoted above) and she did not ask for her money back or a discount or anything. I have read posts where people are disappointed in the cake and ask for money back on it. Still, it's a tough pill to swallow.

I think the cake is gorgeous!
