Has anyone successfully attached molded candy figures on a buttercream iced cake? I was thinking of attaching candy shaped baby booties on the sides of the cakes and not sure if they would hold.

Anyone?

Are you making the candy yourself? I made sea shells from candy melts and then stuck a toothpick in the back before I put them in the fridge. That way, when they hardened up and I was ready to put them on the cake, I just stuck the toothpick through the cake. Everything held very nicely.

here's a pic of a cake I did before I took decorating classes. My grand-nephew wanted a beach/volleyball cake. All the underwater decorations are some kind of candy. I put them on right after I applied the buttercream, so they stayed in place very easily, even though it was about 95 degrees out that day!

For chocolate, or if your icing has already crusted, just apply some BC to the back of the candy piece and stick it on.

I just did this on my bug cake in my photos. They kind of stuck out a little. They were kind of thick and I put a toothpick in the back.

mconrey, do your tooth picks stand up with no problems but the candy hardens. It just seems as if the toothpick wouldn't hold up b/c the chocolate is melted.

AgentCakeBaker - yes, the toothpicks stayed okay. I put the melted candy melts in the sea shell mold and let them firm up for a minute to two in the fridge before I put the toothpick in each one. It worked out fine - they didn't seem to move around too much.
