My aunt and uncle dwelling in Ohio were kind enough to send a bushel of lovely, fresh, bountiful veggies from their greenhouse for my family the other day and I wanted to give them something in return. In lieu of a more healthful present, I decided on cookies. ^_~
So, I whipped up a batch of shortbread cookies, (using granulated sugar, a heaping helping of AP flour and bucket-loads of butter, from a recipe I'd never tried before, found in a holiday cookbook) and they wound up being horrible to work with and smell really quite bland. Bummer. The thing is, mummy and I already made a whole bunch of cute little cutouts last night, baked 'em and I wanted to spend some quality time with her icing them tonight. To make up for the tastlessness of my munchie monster, I'd really like a flavourful icing to top 'em with. Any ideas?
I planned on using a royal icing, but have never actually worked with it before; just how tasty is it? I'd like something sweet but not overpowering and that isn't too difficult to colour, having stumbled upon a package of Wilton icing colours in the cupboard not too long ago and I've been itching to use them... again... and again... plus s'more afterwards. Would that make something like a strawberry or peppermint extract be out of the question?
Thanks in advance, guys and dolls. You're beautiful!
Royal is good, but Antonia's Icing in the recipe section is very good. It won't overpower the cookie and is easy to work with. It is a variation on regular royal icing. Hope this helps.

Royal!!!!
I prefer regular way. Please don't shoot me anyone but I don't like Anotonia's. I don't like the cream on tartar. Just my opinion You may actually LOve iT!
