Remove them!! Every since I tried the cake extender recipe from Cake Central, with the sour cream...I can't keep people from second ordering!

Can you imagine!??

if you have any doubts.....here is proof...

One of my Chef Instructors ( she's the one that her wedding cakes START at 3,000.00!)

Well, she is in the process of buying a house, moving, getting herself sorted, so she had to do a wedding cake for a friend. She called me, she knows that I use cake mix..hahaha. But since it was for a friend of hers, she figured...
"they get what they get".
I made the cake extender recipe, and guess what? She just came back yesterday asking me to make the cake for the September Chef's Birthdays!

So, I'm putting myself out there and saying....

It must be yummy delish...soooooooooo...if you have any doubts about trying it , using it...don't!

Even my Ukranian Landlord keeps running into the shop to "steal" cake..he said it taste like something his granny used to make in his country!!!

Enjoy!!

and thank you to who EVER posted that!!

I guess I now have to give you a percentage of every cake I sell? hahahahaa!

What type of mix did you use with the extender?

Which one are you referring to? ... the enhanced or super enhanced? I'd like to try it.

oh sorry,

you can use any mix..

it's the one where you add 8 ounces sour cream or yogurt.

1 cup sugar

1 cup flour

dash of salt

dash of extract

after you prepare your mix.

BY THE WAY...only 2 extended mixes fit into the KA 5Q mixer..

or 3 regular ones! lol

This is the one that I use and I have had tons of compliments. No one knows that it's not a scratch cake. I don't use the sour cream. I use Dannon Low-Fat vanilla yogurt in mine. I don't like chocolate cake, but I can eat it plain with this added to it.

Questions from a novice do you make up the cake mix first then add the other ingredients? Do you mix all the ingredients together before adding to the cake mix?

And finally would this be a suitable batter for the 3D cuddly bear?

Thank you in advance

I mix all the ingredients at once, I have seen some people that mix the stuff for the mix and then add the rest. I don't see a difference in the baking by doing it either way. If you do this with maybe the BC pound cake added in or something you probably could. I mainly use dh cake mixes and they're way too moist to do a 3d cake in my opinion, maybe others can offer more insight for that.

What is this cake extende I am really confused I guess that's just a name for doctored cake mix? and if this recipe is so great what about all the other recipes on CC that have high rating? aren't they just as good?

I've only added pudding or cream cheese to my box cake mixes. But want to try this one posted. An extender just makes the recipe 'go further" and makes it taste more like made from scratch....I imagine.
My question though...the receipe is for 1 cake mix box....right.? I'd double it if I was using 2 boxes?
I need to make an 11 by 15 cake/pan. Instead of using 2 boxes PLUS double the posted receipe....( I think that would be too much batter) Could I use the 2 boxes of mix but NOT double the extender? So 2 boxes to 1 extender receipe? What do you think...?
Thanks

This gives you extra batter. A normal batter gives you 2 9inch rounds, or 8 inch, by adding the extender, you can make 2 10inch rounds with one cake mix, or you should have enough batter to make 3 9" rounds. I use DH cake mixes because they have more batter in the box.

I personally use the extender recipe even if I'm not "extending" my batter because I like the flavor it gives, and it gives you a really high cake. You have to bake it a few minutes longer than normal too.

Yummy! I don't really like cake mix cakes (the flavor always seems a bit flat)...but this afternoon I tried both the BC white with the extender and also the DH triple chocolate. WOW! What a difference! (I didn't really need the extra cake...I'm only practicing anyway....but this is SOOOOO good.) icon_surprised.gif)

Thanks for the suggestion (and great encouragement to try it). Definitely I will include this next time too.

It makes a huge difference. I bet you couldn't even tell it was a box mix huh? icon_wink.gif
