Oreo filling... anyone?

I have a baby shower cake coming up. For one of the layers, I want to do white cake with an areo filling.

Anyone have any idea how to make an Oreo filling? Mix crushed Oreos and what? Buttercream frosting? Vanilla pudding? Any other suggestions?

I just mix the crumbs in my regular buttercream icing. I buy the Oreo cookie crumbs so that I don't eat the filling, haha!

Maybe you can try 1 or 2 sticks of butter, depending the size of the cake, you can also use powder sugar, marshmellow fluff, vanilla or chocolate pudding. Cause you need to use ingredients that are going to easily be incorporated well with the oreos. You might want to use a food processor the chop the oreos fine so that when you add all the other ingredients it would be speadable/manageable without all the clumps of oreos. Do a little experiment with the items mentioned before doing a larger batch. That is what I do before doing a larger batch of filling or frosting. Hope this was of some help. I give my Oreo's a rough smashing in a ziploc bag and then add them to buttercream that's been thinned a little. You have to use real Oreo's though. The generics just don't taste as good. I like to leave some chunks too. The ccokies soften in the buttercream and it's so good to bite into a soft cookie chunk surrounded in buttercream...you know it's the real deal.

Whimsical Bakehouse has a recipe using fresh whipped cream with crushed oreos folded in. It tastes like cookies-n-cream icecream!

Or you could just fold crushed oreos into cool whip.

OMG the recipe form the Whimsical bakehouse is FABULOUS!!!! I eat that stuff right off the spoon. YUM! It's one of my favorites! icon_biggrin.gif

Here is a recipe I copied from a recipe swap board I frequent. I haven't tried it yet but I am really looking forward to whenever I get an opportunity , it looks SOO good! Let me know if you try it.

Cookies and Cream Filling

In a bowl of an electric mixer at high speed, whip until stiff.

2 1/2 cups heavy cream
1/4 cup confectioner's sugar
1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Gently fold in: 20 chocolate sandwich cookies, such as Oreos, crushed into medium pieces.

Yield 6 cups.

I whip up some pastry pride and fold in some crushed oreos...It's yummy and non-dairy so I don't have to worry about it spoiling.

Thanks so much for all your ideas. I think I'm going to have to try a couple of these out before the shower. Maybe my friends at work will have to help me out by taste-testing for me - they just HATE that!

Yes, you have to refridgerate that recipe because it is whipped cream.

Hi TamiAZ, I also live in Arizona and have been trying to find a non-dairy whipped icing to use with an edible image. I have been told by others on here to use a non-dairy whipped icing for the image. Where do you buy the pastry pride from and is it already made, or do you have to add ingredients? Thanks, Janice

Hi Janice,

I buy Pastry Pride at Smart & Final in Mesa on Stapley. I love it!! I can't remember if I've used a edible image on it. I'm guessing you probably could.
