I have been asked to do a wedding cake next weekend and they want the diamond pattern on the sides of this cake. I bought the press patemplet from kitchen kraft, but do I use buttercream frosting or fondant? If I use fondant how do I press the pattern in without using so much pressure I destroy the cake at the same time? Any help would be appreciative. Thanks

I have not used my diamond impression mat on fondant, only BC...I have used it on several of my cakes in my photos. Just wait till your BC is crusted well, dust the mat with cornstarch and press firmly but gently, if that makes sense! Just practice before the wedding, of course icon_biggrin.gif

You can use the impression mats on both fondant or crusting buttercream. I can't help you with the fondant since I've only played around with fondant to try to make figures. I'm sure the talented cake decorators on here will know more than me!

I have tried the impression mat on the fondant but it doesn't work that great for me because like you say, you have to push so hard that it messes up the cake. What I do is push it in enough to mark where the diamonds go, then I have to go over it with a dowel or roller of some kind to help to imprint it into the fondant. So I would also like to know if anyone has had success with using the impression mat on the fondant.
