I am decorating cookies for my friends birthday tomorrow, but I am looking for a recipe that will dry hard that I can flood the cookies with and pipe designs that doesn't dry rock hard! When I made Christmas cookies last year, I used the Wilton recipe, and I swear I could have chipped a tooth on those darn cookies!!! icon_eek.gif

Anyone???

Absolutely Antonia's! Go to the articles tab at the top of your page and scroll down to the "How to bake and decorate cookies" topic and there you will find in great detail all the information you need including the recipe. Hope this helps thumbs_up.gif

Antonia's recipe (while it does taste good) always dries really hard for me. I do it just like it says too. My family isn't really into the crunchy icing, so I use a glaze that dries chewy, but you can still decorate with Royal on top of it.

I like working with Alice's cookie icing. I've never tried Antonia's (yet), so I can't compare the two, but Alice's dries firm, but is softer underneath the crust.

Alice's Cookie icing does not dry rock hard - it is basically the wilton royal icing recipe with 1/2 c. of butter added to it, then you thin it down for decorating. it takes much longer to dry, however, and never really does get rock hard.

A lot of people like Toba's Glace . . . I haven't tried it - it dries, but I don't think it is as hard as royal icing. It is basically confectioner's sugar and water (wilton has a similar cookie glaze icing)

I have tried both Antonia's and Alice's cookie icing! They both taste great and are wonderful mediums to work with, however, the only reason I prefer Alice's is because it does not dry rock hard. When I decorate cookies with rolled buttercream or MMF I use Antonia's recipe for details, but if I decorate entire cookies with royal, I use Alice's!
