I love to bake but can never eat anything that I bake. My husband says that I'm nuts, but it just doesn't taste good to me. It doesn't matter if its cookies, cakes, whatever. Everyone else loves the baked stuff that I make though, so I guess that's all that matters. I guess this is why my husband cooks LOL.

It doesn't help, I gain from all of DH great cooking. That and teaching DD how to bake. Of coarse you have to eat everything she makes and tell her how wonderful it is. Luckily she's turning out to be a great little chef.

I love to cook and love to bake. I eat my cooking cause I am the only cook in the family. Hubby burns everything kids won't even eat his grilled cheese. Cause Dad Burns Everything!!! My teenage son does cook some simple things and is learning. Daughter is almost 8. So Mom is cook. I love to bake and decorate cakes. But I don't like frosting to much, so eating the icing while decorating and after it is decorated is not my problem. It is when the cake is right out of the oven. Is when I have the problem. Just like Cookies right out of the oven. Nice and warm and soft YUMMY!!! But cooking is my thing period. Creating food to please other people is what I love the most. My sister doesn't like to cook. So I often times cook double to give to her. And her family loves me. If I need my car worked on if I offer my enchildas my twin nephews will do just about anything for them. So I can cook and not eat it all. But not that I am some little skinny thing I do have to eat my own cooking. I just don't like frosting.I know I am weird. Love to decorate but don't like frosting. NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER eating my own cakes!!!!!!! I only make cakes for family & friends at the moment, so not too many each week. I absolutely love when the cake domes a bit, so that a bit of trimming is required!!! I take the top off my cakes & use a bit of choc BC (I always seem to be asked to make chocolate cake) on the underside & then cut in two .. My 4 year old son calls it chocolate sandwich! We all get a tiny bit to eat ..... for research purposes of course !?!

I spend so much time making/decorating each cake that I'm somewhat turned off by it, so I don't eat much of what I make... the first day. However, the second day is another story... my cakes seem more appetizing to me. Weird, I know.

Yes, I admit that I often have difficulty eating my own foods/baked goods, especially if I am doing a lot of cooking or baking for an occasion. I get so tired of the smell that it just doesn't appeal to me when serving time comes.

My grandmother never sat down with us to eat during holidays. Now I understand why. She must have been the same way, because it did not bother her to stand or sit on the side and watch us enjoy our meal... in fact, she got more satisfaction out of doing the cooking and watching us celebrate with food than she did out of the meal she partook in later.

It's funny how these little things pop into your head so many years later...

If I do lots of baking I get sick of it. I don't eat as much cake as I used to either, now that I'm decorating more often a smaller piece will satisfy my.
Being around too much sugar makes me crave salty foods so it doesn't really help my waist. icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, I don't have a problem, but I am not a cake person. I LOVE chocolate cakes, which I don't bake too often. But yellow, butter, vanilla cakes, I can pass. I eat them occasionally, but don't really care for them.

Now cookies, I like. I love the Wilton cookie recipe and when I make it, it have to eat a couple.

I don't as much of my baked goods as I think I should. If I make a cake for the family I usually only eat 1 or 2 slices. Before I got into cake decorating I use to eat baked goods ALL THE TIME. I guess it makes a difference now that I know I can make my own rather than buy it.

I don't have a problem eating too much cake anymore. Since I have gained experience I don't do a lot of practice cakes. However, my husband and I both LOVE the tops when I level a cake and some of that is usually enough for me. I also don't taste my icing as much as I used to. For a while I threw out all the left over bc because I found myself getting into it with a spoon. I made a big two layer 1/4 sheet for my twins b-day and only had one big piece. I made too much and so cut BIG pieces, lol. None of my dd's fellow teachers complained when she took the left overs to school. And that was good exposure for me because the part she took was the first photo I'd put on a cake.

It's not so much the cake that I hate, it more the BC. I absolutely hate it. If only there was a way to make beautiful cakes without all the icing!! lol

I don't eat much of the cake at all since I make so much of it. Like you guys said, you get turned off by it after a while. I always make my huband taske the icing to make sure it's right. He and the kids love to have left over cake and icing. I just can't eat it except on a family birthday or holiday I might have a little piece.
When I do practice cakes, I give them to the neighbors...

If I am at the party where my cake is being served it just never tastes "good enough" for me. BUT if I eat it at home it's always delicious.

I think it's all in my head. I'm so worried about what others think that I can't enjoy it. Otherwise, why would it not taste good at the party but it does at home (even a piece from the same cake)?

Yes cake decorating and completely turned me off to cake. I stay away from sweets in general though. I work out to hard every week to stay in shape as it is. My dh and my MIL on the other hand LOVE my cakes. Which is why they have about 35 extra lbs on them lol. Ive refused to make them anymore cakes until they loose the weight though lol.

I am the same way....when I cook or bake something, somehow I don't enjoy it as much...I actually am a cheesecake fan, and I love PIES....probably why I don't make them, because I won't be able to stop eating them.
My husband and I are made for each other, neither of us are fond of chocolate!! And I think I just like doing the cakes and getting the satisfaction of somebody hopefully enjoying them. I am scared sometime that they don't taste good, because I don't eat cake...but haven't had any complaints yet!!
Besides, I am one of those people when under stress that don't eat....and because my life is full of it, I don't have to worry about weight...but if a pie was around, I would eat the whole thing!! Especially when I think about my favorites: Pecan, Peach, and Apple...YUMMY....OK, it is only 6:37 in the morning for me...I shouldn't think those thoughts before I finish my coffee...

I WISH I could bake and not eat what I make. I am like CarolAnn used to be - I have to throw out my leftover BC or else I will eat it. I'd like to try making cake balls but somehow, I never have any leftover cake scraps when I'm done baking... This is not a good hobby to have while I'm on Weight Watchers and trying to lose weight!

I'm still new at doing cakes, so I DO have a problem with eating all of it. I love cream cheese buttercream icing (with butter of course), and I really enjoy a good white cake. With some type of good filling like apricot or raspberry. And, I too, LOVE cheesecake. I think it's my favorite dessert by far.

I also can't eat what I make. This especially applies to the no fail sugar cookies. I can't even stand the smell - but everyone loves them so I keep doing it. I don't really have a problem with cake but I just started doing cakes so maybe that's why. But I ALWAYS get that way w/ christmas cookies. I make all these cookies and then don't want to eat them.

I rarely eat my own cakes. Im just not a huge cake person. Now, if we're talking pies, or crisps or cookies... LOL I had made one for my dad's birthday.. when it came time to eat it I declined. My dad looked at me and said - wait a minute... isnt there something fishy bout a cook who wont eat her own food? LOL Im just not a big fan of cake. Or the super sweet frosting LOL

I love everything I bake! But, if I am at a party and I baked a cake or other dessert and there are also other desserts there, I like to try the other people's stuff just for something different.

I will not eat cake or icing when I am baking or decorating. But once it is done I love to sit down with a cup of tea or coffee and have a small slice.

I love everything I bake, but the more & more I baked, the more & more bc grossed me out. (Ok, stop throwing the rotten veggies at me now!!)

Seriously, it just has this smell to it......it's way too sweet for me and I don't like it.

So....you're not alone!!!

If I ever attend a wedding or bday that I made the cake for, I won't eat the cake and people always look at me weird.

When I am at some function I made the cake for I always have some because I like good cake and icing. On occassion I've been less than thrilled with the end result of my decorating but the taste is always great. I wouldn't think it'd look good for a decorator to turn down his/her own cake at a function as it'd make people think there's something wrong with it. I'm not looking at my cakes as ever being a big business venture or my livlihood so I LIKE what I do and DO what I like. I've had to tell a few people that I don't do the type of children's cakes they wanted but directed them to a store where they could get it. Guess where! But if someone asks me to do something I just don't like/want to do I don't feel obligated to say yes and then scramble to learn a new technique for that order. I got jumped on here some time back for saying this but do have the right to refuse a customer for any reason and I have at times redirected their design ideas towards something more in line with my level of skill or interest. I'm into cakes because I love doing it and that's the way I intend to keep it. I operate best with a minimal of stress and so I operate my business that way. It keeps life fun. Okay how did I get way out here with this? I guess something sparked it here. Probably hearing about all of you who are doing numerous cakes every weekend and I just don't know how you do it, but I admire you for it.
Have a great weekend everyone!
