NEED HELP WITH SUGAR BOX PARTY FAVORS

We seen it on food network sugar rush - They made a small trincket box out of sugar - it had a lid and they decorated the top with royal icing.

Anyway - we have looked all over for directions on how to make these boxs.

Does ANYONE know how to do these.

The sugar was hard and crystalized so the box held its shape and so you could put little candy favors inside of it.

please email me thecountrypetal@yahoo.com

I just made some this passt week... they are quite easy... the sugar mixture is the same as if you were making panoramic eggs... and the top is just pastillage or gumpaste... I'll try to upload a picture for you

please share the information and the pictures with the rest of us. The candy box sounds like a great gift for the holidays.

I do them for weddings. I don't have a picture to upload. Hopefuly soon. They are so easy. Cookie cutters work gerat for the lids! You can add any kind of decoration that you can think of. I use ribbon to hold them together.
Good Luck!!!!

this is completely weird - my post disappeard from the forum and ended up in my email.

Anyway - what is best the water or the egg white ?? which holds up better

someone told me that these fall apart in the humidity

any tips or tricks ?

You use water and meringue powder instead of egg white... the m.p. makes it dry harder/faster... I have made panoramic eggs and these boxes and they haven't fallen apart... my eggs from Easter are still in perfect condition... They are supposed to last... forever if taken care of... hope this helps.

how much of each? MP and water

I'd love to learn to make these.

for every 4 1/2 -5 cups of sugar.. about 2 teaspoons of m.p. and for water... you want a wet sand consistency.. maybe a little less than 1 tablespoon per cup of sugar... You can't have it too wet or the shape won't hold... play with it to get the feel of it.... the m.p. isn't required so if you don't have any just use the water...
