I need to make cookies for my daughter's cheerleading group. They want W's in royal blue. I checked Michael's and the only letter cutters they have are small. I want a 4" or would settle for a 3". I will do blue fondant and outline in white royal.

Anyone have a line on reasonably priced cutters. I will use this one over and over for school functions so I don't mind paying a little more.

coppergifts.com has large letters. They are about $10 each, but may be close to 5".

good luck!

I say you make a run to Home Depot and get some aluminum flashing and make your own.........a letter wouldn't be too complicated to shape yourself!! They have tons of non toxic welding glues that work on metal........I've made tons of cutters myself and never had any problems........needs to sit overnight to completely cure usually........depends on the adhesive!

It would also be easy to cut a letter from stenciling plastice. Use it as a template to cut out the cookies. Lots of straight edges wouldn't take much time to cut out.

Sheena16,

Have you checked the big plastic assorted cutters Michael's carries? They have the entire alphabet in there. Or you can order a tin one on line from cookiecutter.com. There shipping is only 2.95 for a small order.

I have the Wilton 101 cutter set that has larger alphabet cutters in it. I think the whole set was only $14 or so, but I believe I bought them at Hobby Lobby with a 40% discount coupon.

Thanks for all your help. I went to Michael's yesterday for their Labor Day sale. There was a 50% off coupon in the paper. I got my neighbor's coupon and took my daughter. The 101 cookie set was only $5 with the coupon! I also go the alphabet set for $4.50 with a coupon. My daughter took all 3 Wilton classes this summer and is doing wonderful cakes. She's only 17. I like making the cookies.

Yesterday we did footballs, football helmets, megaphones and W's for her to take to school. We rolled the marshmallow fondant and put it on the cookies as soon as they came out of the oven.

They turned out great. The only problem we had was the fondant sticking. I think next time we'll decide a few days ahead what we're making and do the fondant cutouts and let them dry a little. They will be easier to handle and won't stretch. They will still melt onto the cookie like we want.

After the fondant and cookies cooled Sheena detailed them with royal icing. They turned out great. She took her samples to school to show the home ec teacher. She orders all the cookies for the school banquets. She told Sheena that she would order from her if she likes them.

Thanks again for all your help. I love this forum.

It sounds like your cookies turned out great! Did you take any photos of them? I would love to see them! Tell you daughter she should start her portfolio now! We may have another famous cake decorator in our midst!

Wow, how cool to have someone to bake with! My dh helps but it's not the same thing if you know what I mean. There's a difference between someone agreeing to help and someone who wants to bake and decorate! Good for you! I'm working with my 12 year old granddaughter as i only have sons and she is loving it! Too bad she is in Oregon and I am in CA.
