Can someone tell me where I can buy popcorn salt? At a regular grocery store?? I wanted to try the buttercream icing (that's supposed to work like fondant) and it calls for popcorn salt.
Thank you!
Popcorn salt is usually found in the same aisle with the popcorn and microwave popcorn. It is a little finer than regular salt.
Thank you -- do you know if that type of icing can be stored in an air tight container for a few days before ready to use it?
Yes you can leave buttercream in the fridge as long as its sealed in a container. I have popcorn salt and it is absolutley disgusting. Taste it before you use it.
Make sure you get the UNFLAOVORED popcorn salt!! They have both - butter flavor and just plain. You want the just plain for the icing.
I use popcorn salt for my icing as well since it is much finer. Our store has it with all the other seasonings and regular salt.. not in the popcorn aisle... it took me forever to find it the first time. LOL
So look both places if you don't see it with the popcorn.
If the only difference is that the grain is finer for popcorn salt, why not save yourself some money and toss some regular salt in your food processor? My husband does this with brown sugar for some of the BBQ rubs that he makes and it works great! He will usually do up a bunch at a time and store it in a separate container. Just a thought!
